legofamily Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Hi All, I picked up a Canadian Geocoin today and logged it at geocoins.ca. Can we not log them into geocaching.com too, so it shows on our stats? I tried to figure it out, but I think geocaching.com only allows U.S. geocoins. Thanks! Legofamily Quote
PDOP's Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Unfortunately no they can't be logged on geocaching.com . There are a lot of other coins like this because there's a fee involved to get the coin tracked similar to a Travel Bug or US Coin. Quote
legofamily Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Thanks. That's too bad. I really wanted the icon thingy! Quote
dogbreathcanada Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Groundspeak charges US$1.50 per trackable coin. So it is expensive. As well, Groundspeak has final approval over a coin's design, if it is to be considered for trackability on the geocaching website. It's not really worth it in the end, in my opinion. Few coins make more than a few hops before ending up in someone's coin collection and out of circulation. Coins rarely travel as far as most travel bugs do. Quote
ZoomZoom Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 I've had a TB travel less distance than a coin. Quote
mtn-man Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Actually, when these coins were produced, tracking was not available on GC.com except for Moun10Bike coins and USA Geocoins. Even if the coin creator would have wanted them tracked the ability was not there. This is a relatively recent addition. These geocoins have been around since 2002 or so. If you found a low numbered coin, you found a real treat. Quote
