+Ama&Papa Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Some of the world's most visited places are beaches. I hope this will be a waymark category.
Aushiker Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Hi I would question the suitablity of this as category. Beaches are common. What would be the Waymarking requirements for same? What is your reasoning for put this up as a category? Regards Andrew
+Ama&Papa Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 I agree that beaches are commonplace around the world but that doesn't make them any less desireable as destinations for waymarkers. Let's take Bondi Beach for example. If I'm on my way to Sydney and plan to do a little caching or Waymarking, wouldn't I want to know about Bondi? Around here in BC where I live, we have hundreds of beaches and many have names. I think folks visiting here would profit from a little local knowledge re. the local beaches. Recently I visited two beaches in Ireland that belong on the list. One was a well-known surfing destination which I learned about from geocachers.
+Team Neos Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I agree that beaches are a good idea--I can't believe that someone hasn't already suggested that! Public access beaches aren't always obvious to tourists and you can often walk right past the shrub-covered walkway to a terrific small beach on your walk from the parking area to another better-advertised beach. My father was always great at finding secluded public beaches away from the crowds, but I always end up at the beaches where you have to beg someone to move their towel over three inches so you can lay yours out! A picture requirement on this category would allow others to dream of being able to get away to visit out-of-the way spots.

What is your reasoning for put this up as a category? I disagree. Beaches may be common but then so are McDonald's Restaurants. The one problem I see is that beaches can be quite large. Are the coordinates for the center of the beach, the entrance to the main parking area, or just the ideal spot on the beach to spread out your towel? The advantage of Waymarking beaches is that you can require a lot of category variables to help you search for that perfect beach. For example: Clothing optional? How's the surfing? Are dogs/pets allowed? Lifeguard on duty (dates/hours) Beach dangers (sharks, rocks, pollution, etc.) Ammenities (restrooms, showers, food, etc.) Fees
+Torgut Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Beaches are a must in Waymarking. I have no doubts about that. A completely must.
