+dhbaird
For folks who have used both color and grey scale GPS's, did you get any real benefit for moving to color? Any drawbacks? Power consumption greater or the same? David Quote Link to comment
+IV_Warrior
Some of the color models are hard to see in bright sunlight. A bonus with Topo maps, streams are blue, making them easier to see at a glance and know it's a stream, not a small road or topo line..... Quote Link to comment
+bharper
I have a Garmin GPSmap60c and it has a color screen that you can see perfectly outstide. Plus it has geocache features. Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
Having moved up to a Garmin color unit I will never go back. Easier to see what kind of road I am driving on, color icons stand out from the city icons etc. Quote Link to comment
+hogrod
i have the legend c, and the battery life is claimed to be double that of the old gray scale version. i am amazed at how long these batterys last. i also say that i would not want another one that wasn't color. Quote Link to comment
Vlad
the new garmins offer a color display that is easily readable in bright outdoor light along with battery life that surpasses the older non-color units. black and white tv's work well too... but i prefer watching in color. +Thrak
One of the reasons I bought a color GPSr is that it is easier for my older eyes to distinguish things. I have found it to be VERY easy to read in bright sunlight. Garmin GPSMAP 76CS. Quote Link to comment
+EraSeek
I have a grey scale map76. It is difficult to read in bright sunlight at times. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
The older color GPS's can be harder to read. This would include the Sport Track color amongh others. The newer GPSs are easier to read in color. Having used a GPS V and a GPS 60CS side by side I was completely amazed at how much better the color screen was. The new garmin colors are also more efficient when it comes to batteries. All Garmin Color GPSs are of the newer kind. The magellan explorists are also probably better but I haven't seen them first hand to confirm. Edited November 7, 2005 by Renegade Knight Quote Link to comment
+Team Wildebeest
I sold my b&w venture to a friend and bought a 60cs. Just being able to tell at a glance what might be a stream, road or contour line made the color screen worth it for me. The venture does just fine, but I like the color better. Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
When the 60 series first came out, I bought the C mainly for the additional map memory and autorouting. If the grey scale Map 60 came out at the same time, and it had 56MB, I would've done without the color to save a few bucks. But it was just the C and the CS that came out, so color wasn't an option - it was mandatory! So color was just an extra bonus for me. But now that I've had color, I will NEVER go back. As it has been said, I agree that it makes things much easier to see! And with Garmin's 256-color transreflective TFT display, the brighter the sunlight - the easier it is to see! B&W is SOOOooooo 20th century! Quote Link to comment
