Could someone please tell me how to post pics directly on thewaymark page? I created several waymarks for odd size buildings this evening and the pics were on the page but only in the gallery section. The owner denied them saying my pics need to be on the page. I do not know how to do that can some one help please.?

Cripes, soon we'll all have to run a 4-minute mile to log waymarks. I can't imagine the link not being enough. If I didn't think the photo requirement was silly enough, having to be HTML proficient takes the cake.

 

Anyway, to do it, you'd need to set the log to being HTML when you edit the description.

 

Then you need to insert <p>'s for every paragraph you use since making it HTML will eliminate the white space breaks.

 

Then, somewhere in the description you can insert:

 

<img src="http://.......">

 

right clik the gallery image and use "Copy link location" to find out what the http:// should be.

edited to say: Make sure your http:// ..... ends in .jpg. I just tested this out and found like three pages in a row that the link goes to another html page and not the actual picture.

 

You'll need to click "view gallery images", then click on the thumbnail, then right click the picture. You can either use the "copy image location" or "copy link location." Using the image location gives the small version probably 320x480 or something like that. The "link location" will be the full size view.

Edited one last time to say, I'd go so far as to use the image that WM.com uses as the thumbnail. Though, the category owner will probably next place an image size restriction to the Waymarking page, so that'll probably get you turned down again. But that will help those of us on dial-up view your waymark without having to wait for a 320x480 picture to load.

I paid a programmer to post those pics to my Earthcaches. I am not that computer literate to have done that. Unfortunately I have never posted to those pages by myself little Devil. Nomad, thaanks for the html lesson. I agree this is getting very difficult to post some very interesting waymarks. I have read through your description and do not really follow it yet. I will reread a few more times but I might just give up on those waypoints for awhile. I had been hoping to own the waymark for others to find. The buildings I have created pages for are Futuro homes, one in NJ,, Delaware, Texas, and Germany. And yes I have visited them. I live in NJ and my sister lives in Texas and even traveled to Germany. So my numbers are good my pics are their but my creations are archived for me to move my pics from the gallaries to themain page SIGH!!!

I'm gonna post this in a more user friendly, less emotional response.

 

"Displaying Pictures on Waymark Pages"

 

1. Upload your images to the gallery using the instructions on the waymark page.

 

2. Collect Information:

 

For each image you want to display on the waymark page, you'll need the URL that Waymarking.Com uses to display the image in the thumbnail or gallery views. (Highly recommend against using the full size image for those of us on dial-up).

 

a. Click on "Click here to view gallery images"

b. If you are going to use the thumbnails to display, your journey ends here. If you want to display the "medium" sized image, you'll need to click on each thumbnail, get the URL, go back to the thumbnail list and repeat.

c. Right click on the image you want to display on the Waymark page. Select

- For Firefox users, "Copy Image Location"

- For IE users, select "properties", then copy the text next to "Address (URL)"

 

This URL needs to end in JPG, if not the image won't display.

 

d. paste these values into a notepad blank file or someplace you can keep track of them.

 

3. Select "Edit Waymark"

a. Next to "Long Description," select "HTML Enabled?" check box.

- remember that once you enable HTML, the entire description has HTML rules applied to it. That means if your description has paragraphs in it, you need to begin them each with a <p> HTML tag.

b. for each image you want to display, you'll need an "img" tag.

at the top of the long description, put:

<img src="......"> - replace the periods with the URL you copied in step two above. When you're done, it should look something like this:

 

<img src="http://img.Groundspeak.com/Waymarking/thumb/246b01ef-3c5a-4346-b046-bfffde862fba.jpg">

 

c. after the <img> tag, insert a <br> tag just to make sure the text to follow goes on to the next line.

 

Then enter all of your description to follow. Again, make sure each paragraph starts with a <p> tag to provide line breaks between paragraphs.

 

Someone else may have a better explanation of this. I learned HTML a long while ago, some of my tags may have deprecated and God only knows what. But this above method will get the image on your page. For anyone else that has trouble making this work, make sure to post as much. Perhaps that will sway the category managers with this silly "display" requirement to drop it.

Well I have somewhat successfully posted pics to the waymark page Yeah! Only the small ones though as I have not ben too successful at putting big pics up.

But I lost the web page links. They do not directly link now Ah but that is not a requirement for this catagory, Now if I can ask another question what grand html formula do I use for that? Heck I should have just proposed Futuro homes as A catagory, I might have had better luck! Heck I think I will do that anyway. I think I could manage them better. They are all over the world Check this out. Greetings Earthlings ( I could post a link here because I am using guided mode and it does it for me.) Thanks NomadVW for all of your help

The Washington Geocachers have a quick tutorial page that I found when I first started adding photos. :)Tutorial And another that I found called HTML for your cache page. It has other links that may be helpful.

 

There are also free tutorials that can be found if you search for them.

 

I was intimidated by the required photo's at first but am now thankful because it forced me out of my comfort zone. I actually learned something which I am enjoying (now) and I feel pleased with some of the waymarks I've worked on.

:)

 

Still not comfortable with forum replies yet though.

Thanks everyone, I have managed to make some of the pics larger that I was succesful at adding to the pages, The owner even unarchived them so they are now active; but some are still showing small pics as when I emlarged I have a broken pic. I also lost my web links. But I am getting there.. Here is one my husband and I visited in July before we went to Costa Rica.Floridas Tomorrows house from Yesterday I have been able to make the web links blue on Delawares Tomorrows House from Yesterday and they look as if they should link to the web page but the link brings me back to the page see this waymarkDelaware's Tomorrow’s House from Yesterday Opps that link does not even work. Oh well I did learn how to put small pics on a web page Whoo hoo!! :D Maybe I'll get the rest of it soon.
