+jochta Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) Not an acronym that I know. Is its translation repeatable? Google should sort you out! Reminds me of an old story when I was doing field geology with a senior geologist in Africa, he picked up a rock and asked the local geologist what it was, he took a look and out came the reply "Fubarite". "Of course" said the senior geologist "I should have known". Local geologist smiles but says nothing. Later that day, back in the Landrover the senior geologist asks the local to remind him what Fubarite was exactly. You can guess the rest and the hilarity that ensued! Deego Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) FUBAR Not an acronym that I know. Is its translation repeatable? fouled up beyond all repair although I have heard a few other words in place of the fouled... Edited October 26, 2005 by Deego
+Son Of Windswept Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 The main web site (www.geocaching.com) is generating the following error when you try and connect to it: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached. This means they have a problem serving new web connections to new users from the connection pool. The connection pool effectively sits between application written in .NET and the SQL Server database they are using as the backend. Reasons for this? Multiple, but since this seems to be happening on a regualr basis, you would think that one of their technical types would work out the issue and fix it. A simple bit of of googling provides a number of possible solutions that they could implement to try and solve this. e.g. Tuning Up ADO.NET Connection Pooling in ASP.NET Applications http://www.15seconds.com/issue/040830.htm Regards Paul

I've heard different words used for the R as well, Recognition is the one I normally think of - plus the alternative F of course

+Simply Paul Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 GC.com Watch, with Bill Oddie: "When I was a lad, I used to get my copy of the Spotters Guide to Caches down off a shelf and go geocaching. Now, at 4.40pm, I see the modern equivalent, Geocaching.com, isn't working. Sort of makes you yearn for the good old days, eh?..." And so on. Moorhens in there somewhere too. +sTeamTraen Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 The forums run on PHP (albeit on top of Crimosoft's Web platform) and are generally up. The main site runs on ASP and seems to be down a lot. Quite why anyone still entrusts a business-critical Web site to Crimosoft's rusty old platform any more is beyond me, but I suppose the costs of migrating would be pretty big.
