+The Northumbrian Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Having got mine yesterday and activated them, and then looking at how nice they look I am not sure if I should I let them loose in caches.Alot of travel bugs go missing and these coins are so good that I would not like mine to go walkabout as a souvenir/ trophy. so I am am in two minds as to make them an event tb coin where I would give the tracking no. to the event organizer/ make them virtuals or place in members only caches, what Idea's do the rest of you who have the E.C. coins Nige Quote
Helen in Mustardland Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Having got mine yesterday and activated them, and then looking at how nice they look I am not sure if I should I let them loose in caches..... It's gorgeous, isn't it? Wish I'd bought two now, one to keep and one to travel! If I can bear to release it, it'll be at the Canary Dwarfs 100th celebs. At least that way it'll be in safe hands for a while longer! Just not sure yet whether I'm going to... Quote
+Jonovich Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Gonna peel mine and eat the chocolate inside J Quote
+Mad H@ter Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) We have the same dilemma, my god, they do look good don't they. We have decided that one we will keep with us to show off to geocachers we meet. The other one I was thinking of hanging onto, but making a laminated paper copy of it to send on its way as a normal TB, what does everyone think of that idea or is that not really on. We just don't fancy a virtual coin, not really sure we see the point in them, saying that I just logged Moote's EU coin Edited October 26, 2005 by Phillimore Clan Quote
+Jan and the Percey Boys Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Unfortunately I have caught the collecting bug so mne is staying with me! Bob Quote
+Firth of Forth Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I'm going to drill a small hole in mine (or rather I'm going to get someone who has a drill to do it for me) and attach a chain with a laminated card showing the coin's mission. That might just help people to understand that it is a TB, and the hole might discourage would-be collectors. Quote
+HazelS Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Well... we're off to canada in December, and may well release one there, but the other we're definately keeping. I like the idea of releasing a laminated version... they're just soooooooo lovely!! Quote
+DesG Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 The other one I was thinking of hanging onto, but making a laminated paper copy of it to send on its way as a normal TB, what does everyone think of that idea or is that not really on. That's what we're doing, have already taken and printed a picture of it and on the back we'll list it's tracking number. We think these coins are going to disappear, we have a USA Geocoin that's been in a cachers hands for almost two months now, he did write a month ago and said he'd move it on but we're still waiting despite writing every week. +Moote Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 One of mine is on a virtual EU tour, and the other; well ask me for that when you see me and it's your's to log. Milton (aka Moote) Quote
+Pieman Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I'll be releasing mine- just haven't worked out where yet. If you don't release it I would suggest this is nothing to do with with geocaching, but is coin collecting- nothing wrong with that as I used to do it myself. Now where is that gold sovereign I had- it would make an excellent TB... Quote
+Pharisee Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I bought 4... One I'll activate and keep with my other Geocoins. One will be left unactivated and put in my next cache as a First Finders prize. The remaining two will be left unactivated for the time being until I decide what to do with them. They are rather nice, though, aren't they Quote

+Kitty Hawk Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Keep one to travel with me Take one to release in New Zealand in Spring Give one to Finn * (maybe!) Haven't decided on the 4th, a FTF prize is a good idea, but I think I'll see how it goes. Quote

+macroderma Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I'm off to the States next week, so I am releasing one or two there Definitely keeping one If I ever get around to placing a cache I will probably use the last one as a FTF Stoooopid question Is the tracking code the EUXXXX code or EUXXXX plus the 4 digit number? I will be placing instructions with my geocoin, so I want to be specific Quote

+Globetrotter.uk Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 They are great, well designed and FFM. I brought a brought 3 coins one for my collection another for a fellow cacher and the other one will be the prize I am offering to the cacher who achieves the mission for my usa geocoin. Quote
+Geoki Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 One is staying at home but travelling virtually. The other one will be travelling to all the caches that we do between now and when we go to Florida. Then we will either leave it out there or set it free over here. At least i've plenty time to decide [i am known for changing my mind though so don't hold me to this!! ] Quote
+The Hancock Clan Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I think I'll turn ours into another 'puzzle' coin like our German one. Quote

+HazelS Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) I see someone has already thought about making some money out of theirs! Someone in the states already has one on ebay!! Edited because I couldn't get the link to work!! Edited October 26, 2005 by hazel and Phill Quote
+Happy Humphrey Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) I bought five so I could do the same as Kewfriend - I think they'll make great cache-magnets but I wouldn't want to lose them all! Mind you, it's probably not worth releasing any now that everyone is logging everything "virtually" anyway! HH (edited to add grumble) Edited October 26, 2005 by Happy Humphrey Quote
+Tupperware Hunters Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 i have put mine in one of my caches you can log it but never take it as it is stuck to my window lol Quote

+sTeamTraen Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I think I'll turn ours into another 'puzzle' coin like our German one. Hmmm... I can't work out question 4 (the German is clear but not "what it means", so I'm thinking of trying brute force. However, for that to work, I need to have the other 5 right... I think that the sum of their values (using A=1, etc, and 5=5, etc) is 30. Am I close ? Quote
markandlynn Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Scanned laminated copy of coin for caches. Going to keep the real one in the collection. Nice looking coin the art has really moved on. Quote

SlytherinAlex Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 one of mine I'm keeping here the other I will release! For that to work, you need to put the EUxxxx number on the page otherwise no one can grab it. Except ME of course. alex. Quote
+The Blorenges Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I do hope somebody will be brave enough to release one into a cache to go travelling...I'd like to come across a genuine wild coin Mrs B Quote
+Son Of Windswept Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Mine arrived courtesy of my parents today. Very nice. I will also be releasing mine into the wild, somewhere in Bucks/Oxon soon, but need to pick a good cache to let it go :-) Regards Paul Quote
