Re-use Tracking Numbers On Geocoins?

I was wondering if anyone has thought about re-using their tracking numbers on coins. Since you can get coins with a custom number, what about using the number of coins/tbs which have gone missing?

 

Or would GC.com be against that?

a few people might be mad the icon following your tiny stuffed animal is for a coin or something, but put the in the descrption its not the acutal coin and let it go.

You mean like etching the missing TB's number into your own coin?

That might be a good enough defacement (done properly) to the coin to allow it to keep travelling (ala Lemon Fresh Dog's approach to coin-as-a-tb longevity).

I did that with my first personal coin. I reused a usa geocoin number, since one of my USA geocoins was confirmed "lost"

I bought some "dog tags" or "ID" tags off ebay that look just like the TB tag and they came with four lines of free text. I had them dub the same text that was on my lost tags and bought some ceiling fan chains at a retail outlet and was back in business.

I think I might try this with our new coin. perhaps I will put in in a coin collectors sleeve and put the number on the coin as opposed to have the number etched into the coin.

On the trackable coins, I’ve scanned them and then printed the enlarged image on paper and glued the image between to pieces of lexan. If someone was to keep it or the copy gets lost I can make another one since I still have the coin. I’m targeting the young cachers so they can get some different icons too. It beats putting 10 bucks in a coin and losing it in the first cache. The down side is collectors think that it’s the real coin in the cache.
