Just finished editing up the video for our (Bekandian and Andybug&Ladybird) Ridgeway Run in One, it comes out at just over 36mb so we've decided, to save our servers Bandwidth, if you want a copy email us and we'll give you the link to the file

If anyone wants to mirror the original file let us know also.

I've just mailed for a link. When I get the file I'll see if my VideoWave software will compress it down anymore, and still leave it watchable.

Bekandian, I forgot to ask in my email if you plan to keep the file on your site, and if so, would it be ok to link to it from my caching page? If you can't spare the bandwidth, I'd be happy to host it on my site (I have an unlimited b/w deal).

Really looking forward to seeing everyone's adventures

Please do not recompress the video, there is nothing worse than an over compressed vid as it loses a lot of the original feel.

To be fair, there are quite a few things worse but you get the idea

I was only offering ;)

Of course, if it's 10 mins long, there's not much I could do to lower the file size that wouldn't muck up the picture quality. If it's a minute long, there's much that could be achieved with a change of codex... I agree, recompression isn't ideal, but I don't know what software you're using to squeeze it. The programme I use does a nice job of WMV's - 100Kb/s and 25 frames at 320x240 res.

Anyway, only another 88 minutes (don't you just love dial-up?) before I can praise the camera work and editing wildly!

Ok Internet Video Compression fans, I just had this from Bekie:

"500kbit WMV at 360x288 and it's 11 minutes long "

I take it all back. 36Mb for 11 mins of video is darn good going. What software do you use, B&I?

For the techies amongst us the video stats are...

WM8 WMV

500Kbit Bit Rate

48Kbit WM9 Audio 44Khz Stereo 1 Pass CBR

10:35 length

Encoded using Sonic Foundry Video Vegas 4

15861 frames at 25fps

We've also got a 2.25gb DV version, but that's going to be strictly DVD only ;)

I love broadband better  2m 43 sec from lordelph's site

Nice film, it makes me want to try it

Another super caching vid. What a talented bunch.

Has anyone put together a list of links to all the URLs for UK videos?

This one is will worth watching - great to see the kites. And not a single spoiler as far as I could see.

Did you explain to the muggles at the 'monument' (whatever it was) what you were up to?

Glad to see your video looks like mine, 80% shot from behind. They're always reluctant to stop walking and let me get ahead.

The .zip file I downloaded last night doesn't play well on my machine. The aspect ratio is squashed and the colours weirdly lurid and neon looking. I've tried it with a couple of different players and get the same result.

So I'm downloading the .wmv file from LordElph - I hope that works better for me.

Does anyone have an objection to me linking to the .wmv file from my geocaching page - link below?

I know it's not much help, but both files played exactly the same (as each other i.e. perfectly) on mine.

Windows Media Player 10

file properties tell me the zip files version is aspect ratio 5:4 at 360x288

Video codec Windows Media Video V8

Audio codec Windows Media Audio 9.1

I've also go Adobe Premiere Elements installed, if that makes a difference, and it play OK in that too.

err.. it the rest of the world looking OK to you today?

I should add both those files I linked are the same, just that one is zipped, making it marginally smaller. The video is an unmodified version downloaded from Bekandian around 10AM

I'm still having technical problems (I now suspect it's PC bird flu) but have found a way to watch the film. If I shrink the video to the size of a postage stamp, the colours sort themselves out and it plays ok. Woo! So, I can say it looks great, sounds great... hell, it is great! Well done to everyone involved. Now, to back up my data, blank my PC hard drive, reload windows and try again... And not just to get a better look at the 'butt shots'

Before commiting HD suicide  Might be worth trying to reload the Windows Media Codexes. Or update to Media Player 10 if you haven't already as this will reinstall all the WM codexes for you.

Too late, the deed is done. Actually, I find 'flushing' my laptop every 6 months is a fine way to keep it reliable, as well as a great excuse to back-up my stuff. Glad to say it worked well and now I can congratulate Ian on his editing skills, having seen them in full-screen glory. Really like the musical choices too. One little spoiler got through, but I don't think anyone else noticed.

Well done again - I hope the video inspires others to try my 35 RR caches, plus several others passed along the route! There's more info on the excellent GeoHikes.co.uk web site.

What on earth are you going on about Ms Bags? :D

There was one little spoiler that got through on SP's countryfile video. I had honestly forgotten that until I read Ali's reply. I had to think for ages what she meant, but I'm sure that's it. ( I might be wrong  )

... and they may have something to say to you if you complained, eh Paul?! :D

I'm very very sorry that a bit of me doing your [removed] cache got shown on Countryfile Ali. How was I to know they'd use footage of me [removed] and [removed] before [removed] it? It could have been worse. They could have shown me [removed]!

SP
