+Scratch-n-Win
Thinking of purchasing one of these units, anyone else have one, are they good or bad? (for geo caching) Edited October 20, 2005 by Team Lotto Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
Because things like this can happen, I would have second thoughts about using that expensive item for Geocaching. In fact, I dropped my Palm yesterday, but the hard case was still closed around it and it survived. A durable, waterproof GPSr would be best for Geocaching, IMHO. An inexpensive, older monochrome Palm works fine for the cache data with Cachemate installed on it Quote Link to comment
+Sulley_Monster
I have had my M5 for several months and love it!!!! I would reccomend it to almost anyone. There are some drawbacks to this unit. I woulnd't take it into the woods, it's been fine for urban caching. I use my M5 in combination with my rugged blue e-trex. Just load GPX Sonar, download your maps, and enjoy the day caching. GeoPup&ShelpieGirl
Consider the Garmin 76s? The price has come down, and there are used ones out there. 24mb for loading maps to the GPS. Waterproof and rugged. Monochrome screen. Quote Link to comment
+RumJungle
I know that a lot of folks would not use a PDA for geocaching because of damage, but with the proper protection, it works great. The biggest advantage is if you don't like the existing software, you can use something else. There are lot of GPS software packages that support the PPC. Here are some examples (link) For protecting the unit see this link. If you like to spend money, you can buy a ruggedized version (link) Quote Link to comment
