+Duncan!
Hey Now! It seems that every several months we get asked for "must do" caches in San Diego. Instead of a few answering back with a few caches, I was hoping to compile a list, publish it on my web space, and refer that URL to whomever asks. So, I'm asking you to submit your top three caches in San Diego County. If you want to include more, that's fine. If you want to include an urban and a country list, that's even better. Post here or feel free to e-mail me. Thanks in advance for all your guys help, Duncan! Quote Link to comment
+drexotic
One of my favorite "Must Do" caches in San Diego County is Project "Delta" by drew5.10 (GCM499). It's not in San Diego Proper but it IS a great urban cache. Quote Link to comment

Triwizard Tournament League of Extraordinary Geocachers Caches That Require Some Pre-Trip Thinking: Monopolizing Your Time Crossword Double Direction Maze Obviously, there are many wonderful caches that are not on this list, but these all had something a little different that makes me remember them with a smile. +Chuy!
Good idea D! No doubt, you'll have to categorize them: top 3 puzzles, top 3 micros, top 3 multi's, etc... I suggest you expand to top ten or so! You're gonna have your work cut out, but then again, you're off for two weeks . I have a feeling some folks will resent the wording: top, best, favorite, etc... Shoot they may resent the whole thing, but, overall, I think it's a good idea. My puzzle contributions: Tykes with Kites, Zis is Kaos, Local Treasure, Proctor Valley Monster Project, Pop Art, both Dits, Between the Dits, Extorted Treasure, America Loves Birds, and the Princess Bride Twoo Wuv series. +duganrm
hmm, 3 people mentioned Zis is Kaos.... will have to look into that one. edited to add: Looked into and have the first part solved. Now I need to get out there and put the info to good use. Looks like a wizard of KAOS stands in my way though. Edited October 19, 2005 by duganrm Quote Link to comment

Sorry to rain on the parade, but we met Kevin&Susan at Duck Diving a couple of weeks ago. They are still actively caching! (There's photographic evidence. Here's the link to the log. ) They just stopped counting at 999. Given this, I'd say that Parsa and Dan-Oh have, indeed, been paid a high honor! Quote Link to comment
vagabond
I believe Kevin & Susan + Gumby & pokey had some type of agreement to stop logging on line at 999. +Chuy!
I found a reason not to have Snakes and Ladders on the list. It looks like it caused a geocacher to quit caching. I griped a little about them back in the San Diego thread, pg 73: Rocketman: You mean you don't want to stay at 999 as Kevin and Susan have permanently done? They continue to cache and log finds, except their finds are logged in as notes, not finds. They have several FTF's this way; must drive the locals nuts. I once sent them an email [before I realized what they were doing] asking them if they meant to log a note as a find; they promptly ignored me. They don't realize they have found over 1K finds if they continue to sign both the cache and webpage logs. If it's not about the numbers, why log their finds at all, especially FTF's, as notes, except only to taunt their fellow cachers? I just don't get it ; am I putting too much thought into this? Good grief. Incidentally, "official" find #999 was Snakes and Ladders . Back to sanity: Congrats Kawikaturn on 1K; how 'bout a brewski . fff Quote Link to comment

Back to sanity: Congrats Kawikaturn on 1K; how 'bout a brewski . fff Yeah, I asked them about that when they found my Duck Diving cache a couple of weeks back but only posted a note. They replied "We stopped posting "finds" after reaching 999 last year (Parsa & Dan-oh's "Snakes and Ladders"). We refuse to become "Kilo-Club Members", in protest of the "mass-caching" mentality that, we feel, has permeated and degradated the hobby. We liked it back when quality, not quantity, was the norm. It's so hard to even find a cache we like anymore through all the pages and pages of quickie 1/1's placed within a tenth-mile of eachother. " While I can see their point, and there *are* lots and lots of pointless "for the numbers" caches, it is still possible to sort the wheat from the chaff, and I'm still thrilled at some of the new ones coming out (Mad Eye Moody being a perfect case in point). It wouldn't be too hard to just log finds for great caches - just don't go looking for the crappy ones! It also is a bit of a snub for anyone placing an interesting cache (and underwater ones are K&S's favourites) if they don't think it's worthy of a find. I suppose at the end of the day we're all free to play the game whichever way we choose though, eh? Quote Link to comment

+Mrs. Captain Picard
Hey Duncan, this thread has really grown into a treasure trove of best caches. Geocachers come through again! After recovering from my trip to San Diego, I'd have to say that my favorite area was Point Loma for its scenic beauty and historic significance. I enjoyed hiking in the Laguna Mtns and consider myself really, really fortunate that you took me caching there. Getting a FTF was a thrill!!! And I saw the best fake rock I've ever seen there. I'll try to come back soon and clean out all the rest of the caches I missed the first time! OR, if you run out of puzzle caches, you can come visit in Austin and snag a zillion or two!!! +TrailGators
I've been trying with many others for over a year so far to get GC to create a community favorites list! I thought it would be cool to know all the coolest caches when I travel to other areas. Anyhow, here is a recent post from that thread. Don't bother to read it all because it goes in circles everytime a newbie chimes in. But maybe you guys can help push it some more! The bottomline is that the bookmarks are a big step forward! If everyone makes their own favorites we can easily combine them to make a main SD list but it will be constantly changing so it will become quite a chore! But sommmmmmmmmmeday GC will do this for us..... Edited December 3, 2005 by TrailGators Quote Link to comment
