+shortcutsrus
Became a member, copped a cheap PDA on eBay, now totally paperless...but what is it I see so often on cache galleries as a 'track'? (For example, since it only has three pics in the gallery, see 'The Pen Exchange') If this is purchased mapping software, any recommendations? If free download, again: any tips? Got all the cables, laptop, etc... running with basic yellow eTrex. Edited October 10, 2005 by shortcutsrus Quote Link to comment
+Markwell
I use G7ToWin to download tracks. They can be viewed using GPSVisualizer. Quote Link to comment

peter
The image you referenced from "The Pen Exchange" looks like a screenshot from Garmin's MapSource MetroGuide or CitySelect. Those are good programs but not really worthwhile unless you have a mapping Garmin unit. For displaying tracklogs I prefer USAPhotoMaps (download at http://jdmcox.com) which lets you display the track superimposed on either a USGS topo map: or on aerial photos of the area: Edited October 10, 2005 by peter Quote Link to comment
+shortcutsrus
Thanks all, Peter especially -- I've stumbled onto USAPhotoMaps before, but find the topo views limited in the amount of zoom it allows. Quote Link to comment
