O please, doesn't that simply mean that a brand-new offense has been committed? On the other hand I do see your point that perpetuating an original sin of the "D-Jollyman's bum" variety calls for exceptional measures. So be it, the Clean Slate Rule is hereby amended as proposed with the stipulation that the re-post must appear as the very first entry on a new page. Did they take any photos using that nano camera? When they did my knee I got some photos of the insides of my knee. Hi FlagMan, Read through Yrium Card posts for background/tips and after creating some prototypes came to the conclusion I’d rather be caching than making cards. Did come away with a new appreciation for the work y’all have been doin’. Was using HP ArcSoft Collage Creator and MS Photo Editor rather than Adobe Photoshop. Found some 3 mil laminating sheets/pouches (cold) at S* and had laser prints done on both reg and card stock. If I tried again I’d simplify fonts and designs focusing on contrasting colors. Was wondering if you or someone could advise: 1) Paper-Acid free/Regular/Card? 2) Ink-Jet/Laser? 3) Duplex/2 sheets printed and laminated? 4) 3 mil or? 5) Software/technique used for front/back card layouts to match up? Thanks in advance! Quote

Thanks in advance! 1) Paper-Acid free/Regular/Card? I use acid-free cardstock I get from Staples, or any other office supply store. I think there is an early post to the Yrium Card thread that has the exact specifications for the paper that Yrium used, and I use that same paper. 2) Ink-Jet/Laser? I use ink-jet to print 3) Duplex/2 sheets printed and laminated? I print the front and then turn the sheet over and print the back 4) 3 mil or? I used to use 3 mil but recently have gone with 5 mil 5) Software/technique used for front/back card layouts to match up? I just use Word templates. I'll send you what I use. This happens to be the hardest part for me. I can never seem to get this just right without lots of trial and error. There is probably a better way to make this work, and I'd be open to suggestions! +SD Rowdies Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) ... came to the conclusion I’d rather be caching than making cards. Travelita, Seems like you caught on a lot quicker than the Yrium-card production team. If you do keep at it then your idea of doing dawg-cards will turn out to be a smart choice. Depicting people has more dangers than doing dawgs I suspect. I've been blessed with the opportunity to design quite a few Yrium cards. On average it takes about ten hours to research and develop a decent photo layout, ranging between eight and twenty hours as I recall. Doing people- cards involves a lot of research and coordination. The challenge is to learn enough about an honoree to fairly represent the essence of their nature and notable interests. We are working on a new release this very week. There has been at least fifteen, maybe more, email exchanges between FlagMan, the recommending party, and me in order to derive a decent layout for the new card. My routine is to work on layouts late in the evening before bedtime. Many times I get back out of bed soon after retiring and return to the layout with some bright idea that my pillow whispered to me. ... I know, that's just the way I am. Once an approved layout has been developed the back-of-card information must be written and FlagMan must do his part which includes framing the layout, printing and laminating the first-release cards, and placing of the first release cards into Max's Favorite Park Geocache. Of course FlagMan also issues a new uDesignit card from time to time and always places it on the peak of some high mountain. ... did I mention the extra effort that goes into the many "misprint" cards. There's a lot of effort that has gone into the many Yrium cards, that's for sure. Must be one of those things called a labor-of-love. Truth is that there are few dedicated Yrium-card collectors. Far fewer are the really serious collectors that hold a complete or near-complete set of the cards. My own collection has one hole in it ... the DevHead red-stapler misprint card that I'd kill for. Anyway, follow your heart about putting effort into a sustained offering of collector cards. Good luck to you if you take the fall. Harmon SD Rowdies Edited March 27, 2009 by SD Rowdies Quote

Wanted to use Glow-In-The-Dark Gel but didn't get around to applying it. I used hot press 5mil laminate and passed on duplex printing after techs couldn't get FM's sample to line up. I've programmed complex forms using these high speed printers so I know what's involved but rather than relying on their set-up in the future, I'd create a fresh template first. More whitespace at borders works well too. Thanks for the adventure. Sock Puppets next! Quote

Inquiring minds want to know more about the glow-in-the-dark gel, did you mean to apply that to yourself or to the cards? I see that you discovered the Cardinal issue of graphic design ... "More whitespace at borders." In the case of Yrium-card layouts the moment-of-truth is when Tom tries to merge my photo-layout with an Yrium frame. This issue came up once again on the soon to be released TNG #5 card; however, Tom wanted more background image rather than whitespace in order to fill in to the irregular inner-edge of the card-frame.
