I've done what I set out to do, to lasso Middle Peak and help tie it to Descanso with a

multi-threaded string of Geocaches.

Many thanks for the untiring suppport of Kosh Naranek and Lava Lizard who reviewed

my contribution of a hundred twenty-three hides ... more or less. That's forty-one

Dixon No. 2 pencils cut into threes, eighty-two sheets of logsheet paper, two

hundred forty-six staples, four bulk-shipments of containers, and I'm unsure how

many FTF dollar-bills.

A thing worth mentioning for this sort of adventure is to use Google Earth map-pins

and ruler tool to preplan approximate hide locations before going out to place hides.

For one thing this technique allowed me to reconnect with trails after wandering off

now and then due to a knee-deep snowpack along Conejos Trail.

The Devil made me do it! Well, that and the fact that I could trick Geocachers into

fording Sweetwater Creek twice. Personal best day? ... Conejos Trail through a virgin

snowpack! Most relentless pursuer? BlondHiLites of course ... and she unselfishly

contributed containers, swag, encouragement, and fresh donuts.

It was dumb-enough to do,

Poor ol' Harmon

Note to Self: Hmm, le'me see now, there's four ways to ascend Middle Peak.

Note Two Self: Yeah, and that untidy mess out on East Mesa gives me the creeps.

Nancy! Just the person I need to talk to ...

In the past few months while hiking mountain trails I get an uncanny

sense that I am being followed.

A few days ago while hiking Conjeos Trail I heard footsteps behind me.

I whirled around and to my surprise saw a track of bootprints in the

snow leading right up behind me ... but nobody there!

There's another angle to this Cuyamaca Campaign I've mounted ...

emails. Every evening after dinner I check my email and find a

stream of messages pouring in from finders.

Put that on top of the fact that for every one of the 136 hides

so far I receive five emails each when posting the cache pages.

Do the math ... 680 email messages. No good deed goes unpunished.

Tonight there was 152 email messages from postings on my Middle

Peak, Azalea Springs, and Conejos Trail hides. Suddenly I'm a

popular guy even without a Facebook account.

Like it,

Here's a tip for y' Lost Guy, hike with Janie and she'll

carry your pack for you.

Truth is that the cavity inside that tree goes down to the

level of Dick's Belt. I spent about fifteen minutes packing

wood scraps and bark into the cavity so's the container

couldn't fall out of reach.

Victim huh? Why I oughta ....

If you intend to search for Geocaches along Black Oak Trail

of Middle Peak within Cuyamaca Rancho State Park you might

notice, now and then, some mention of trees fallen across

the trail.

Indeed, expect a half-dozen such trees lying right across

the trail rather like an obstacle course. In the pictured

case there are convenient handholds provided.

So it goes,

There now, that looks a whole lot better doesn't it?

I do like things nice and tidy. If any of you are

looking for something to do then why not fill in that

long, unsightly gap along Arroyo Seco Trail, hmm?

Guess it's time to admit that I mislead y'all about

Black Oak Trail ... 'cause I wanted you to enjoy th'

true wilderness experience whereupon you had to haul

yourself over a half-dozen fallen trees. Knowing that

the true upper end of Black Oak Trail will be spotted

when y'all take on the Dirty Dozen hides it was time

to fess-up. The bonus is that there just might be a

spot or two for more hides on the upper section of the

true trail ... Jodi. (No whining!)
