would be drawn to Geocaching?

Life is good,

Funny about this ... I've been spending a lot of my spare time

developing an antidote for Facebook Addiction Disease (FAD).

As you can see Facebook mind-control has already affected

outlying areas of our county such as Ramona. Worse yet many

of our city Geocachers have started behaving as though they

were raised on a farm. (See photo of Denice above.)

Right, and here's what I'm going to call my antidote to Facebook,

Buttbook. It's going to be social network for people you can't

stand. See ... y' won't have t' "Like" everythang and instead of

hundreds of so-called Friends you'll have a jillion Jerks t' insult.

Shoot, I'll even throw in a "Dislike" button.

I'm close on this ... havng a little problem finding advertisers.

Goldilocks fitness program

I've been working with Goldilocks of Baldy & Goldilocks with

respect to her tendency to go too far on diet and workouts.

Honestly, she was trying to live on grass clippings and I feared

that we would lose her. Finally talked her into a pork-fat diet

and now I'm proud to say that she is revitalized and looking

terrific.

With her new-found beauty and fitness I expect to see Baldy &

Goldilocks qualify for several Hall of Fame Geocaching areas.

A balanced life is a wonderful thang!

Gosh was I ever surprised to spot this downtown billboard!

Janie and Jodi, ain't they th' sweetest thangs?

Now THAT really made me laugh!!! Great picture of yourself, Harmon!! And it doesn't make anyone's butt look big or anything!!! :)

Yes, but where are the bagel goggles?

Bagels!! Aren't those donuts?!?

Counselor, you are correct. Upon a review of the photographic evidence, they are, in fact, donut goggles. Objection sustained. I shall rephrase my question.

Y'all seem to be having a lot of fun at my expense.

What's so wrong about yeller and orange business

attire, sideburns, and Krispy Kreme donut goggles?

Lucky I didn't post my Levi leisure-suit photo with

the polyester pants that could stand by themselves

once they took a good set to my body.

First house Sandy and I bought came with yellow,

orange, and green shag carpet. We rippped it up and

layed it back down in th' chicken coop with the orange

swag lamp that complimented it, so t' speak. Bud our

Cochine rooster was really pleased with the refurb'

job ... lots of eggs and chicks after that.

If the seventies comes around again I'm getting off at

the next stop 'cause y' can't maintain sideburns like

that with an old man's hair-loss problem.

Those were th' days my friends ....

You picked the right thread to post Geocacher and Geocaching

photos on. Simon and Garfunkel fan huh? In that case you just

dialed into this thread at a perfect moment. So let's start seeing

some of your shots.

By th' way, how do y' feel about donut goggles?

Link to comment

While I'm at it I might as well explain why the

donut-goggle thang came to past. I wrote an

article for The Journal of Irreproducible Results

that explored the occular advantages of Krispy

Kreme donuts when compared with sugared,

powdered-sugar, crumb, mini, and other types

of donuts.

See, th' thang is that wearing powdered-sugar

donut goggles is akin to having cataracts while

wearing crumb-donut goggles is akin to having

floaters in your vision. ... it goes on from there

but the finding was that the uniformity of Krispy

Kreme donut goggles had the very least affect

on vision.

The scientific basis of comparitive tests was

carried out like any eyeglass examination; you

know, "Which is best ... click ... this one or ...

click-click ... this one?" The hard part was

keeping the donuts from falling off of the clicky

thingy.

Will wonders never cease!

It never would have occurred to me that our dear old Harmon would turn out to be a contributer to an imminent refereed scientific journal of the caliber of the JIR. For those who have never heard of it, this is the journal that published such seminal articles as "Buttock-Dimpling in Middle-Aged Women: A Cross Cultural Study" and "Patterns of Limb Retention in Hellanic Statuary". (Though, come to think of it, this might explain where Harmon gets inspiration for some of his artistic works.) Some may remember the JIR for its controversial stance on Global Sinking caused by the continued storage of copies of the National Geographic maqazine in basements and garages throughout the world.

But then again, that guy on the billboard does look kind of like someone that would submit articles to refereed scientific journals. I guess I was thrown off by the suit covering up the pocket protector and slide rule.

To those who might point out that "James, you seem to know an awful lot about this Journal of Irreproducible Results. How do we know you aren't an egghead too?", I would respond that I only subscribed to the JIR for the pictures.

James,

Please, you must know, it's all about engineers of Scottish descent that

relate to JIR. I've got a gallery of shots that were done to support that

piece, all shots of engineers sporting unique forms of donut goggles but

without paper hats.

Now, for full disclosure, the article was never published in JIR. My goal

to do so was overcome by a best-buddy of mine that was a lifetime

diabetic and he reached a critical stage when my artticle was undergoing

review and revision.

My pal lost his left eye due to cancer and later had worse luck to contract

esophageal cancer. Through it all he endured a tracheotomy and some

interesting dialysis that took place each and every night. He spent each

and every day with six pumps helping him along.

He depended on me to be with him whenever a doctor or techician briefed

him on his condition so that I could operate and sometimes modify his

equipment, ask questions, record notes, and do online research about

aspects of his worsening condition.

He bought a GPS receiver early on and used it to get back and forth

between work and his apartment. Yep, he was the pal that introduced me

to Geocaching.

Being a best man and later the one do deliver his eulogy was, shall I say,

unusual. I was beside him when he drew his last gasp. Sandy and I still

have regular social contact with his sweet widow, the lovely lady that I

introduced him to after talking him into taking a square-dance class.

The JIR article got lost in the shuffle. This exchange makes me wonder

where the old draft is ... but that was a very long time ago.

That's the way it was,

Harmon

Doubly tragic. Not only for the loss of a close friend but also that the science community lost what would have been, I expect, the definitive work on the ocular effects of donuts.

Belated condolences. :P

I looked through archives for the article last night but

without success. Even worse I can't recall the name of

the fictitious female opthamologist that I referred to in

the piece ... now it's driving me nuts trying to recall the

especially apt name that I gave her. Trouble is that I

had a different pillow back when I wrote the piece and

Sandy tossed it out.

Pillow-memory loss is a terrible thang.
