Wondering what you all think about leaving scratch-off lottery tickets in caches? Do you think people would try their luck and take them as trade, or scratch them off there, determine they lost, and then trade for something else? Other thoughts?

I would trade, but I think you have a chance of finding some "scratchers" too.

There are two caches here in Texas (probably more) that are lottery ticket themed and based. Yoou can take a ticket but you must leave a ticket. I too am going to start a lottery cache as-well. I do not see a problem with it, but if you win "big" money, make sure you leave darn good swag for the ticket.

Consider: Underaged individuals obtaining said tickets. Should the tickets only be used by purchaser? What are the rules on the tickets? Check legality of this situation. Is it legal to pass purchased tickets? A lot to consider in this situation legal wise.

They are fine trade items. I'm sure that a few bozos will scratch and toss the losing ticket back in the cache and grab something else, but I think most geocachers will do t he right thing.

My favorite cache to date: Rags to Riches (GCJ9E7) was themed after just such an idea. Unfortunately, when I got there, all the tickets were gone. I didn't have any to trade any way, but thought it was an awesome idea!!!

The Scratch Cache was a scratch-card themed cache. I showed up long after the original supply was exhaused and didn't realize where the name came from until I went to log it. I thought it was because I got all scratched up finding it

I wouldnt put them in there because it is never a good idea to put soakable items in a geocache. If they get wet, it is about as useless as cookies.

There's one like that in the Pine Barrens in NJ. It's J&C's Billionaire Cache! It's a great idea, I think! I think cachers are mostly an honest, trustworthy bunch, so go for it!

This will vary from state to state (or country), but I do not believe that my state (RI) has any law against a minor buying or possessing a lottery ticket. In fact, the state lottery laws specifically address payments of winnings to a minor:

So in Rhode Island, at least, you'd be OK.

One cache is a "lotto theme" and it's scratch off. The owner DEMANDS 10% of the winnings, if you do infact win.

 

Caching for commision, I suppose.
