+BuckBrooke
Am I correct in assuming these are USGS (and other agencies) sanctioned? Edited October 5, 2005 by BuckBrooke Quote Link to comment
+PFF
Those are COOL! I see they have Mount Mitchell, in North Carolina. I suppose I could clip the pin version on my cap. When folks ask what I am searching for, I can say, "Look at the hat." -Paul- Quote Link to comment
+Red_Cedars
My wife and I just returned from a two-week cross country trip. We stopped by Devils Tower in Wyoming. I saw what looked like a witness post and went to take a closer look. Turns out it was a carsonite post marking a buried cable, but got me talking to a ranger about benchmarks. She mentioned that they have one up near the visitor's center and had replicas for sale in the book store. Yep. I just had to get one. But here's the kicker for the Devils Tower mark. There is no monument on top of the tower. The nearest monument is the one that they have for sale. It's a little smaller than the original, but otherwise, a very good likeness. Now I have a portable benchmark. Further, I don't think this mark is in the NGS database. The nearest I can find using a radial search on the coordinates taken at the monument (N44 35 26.9 w104 43 14.5) is for the top center of the tower itself, PV0523. +Red_Cedars
I just found This Auction on eBay. If you hurry, you can still get it cheap. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it elsewhere. R_C Quote Link to comment
