FUSE_SCRC
I think I'm ready to place my first cache. I have only 36 finds right now and haven't found anything like the container I want to use. I bought a 2 gallon paint bucket and made it look like a log. Think this will be OK to use? Quote Link to comment
The NEOGeodogs
Pretty cool camo! Quote Link to comment

Stephanie2427
I'm glad I don't have to hunt any of yours. If this is your first cache I'd hate to see what they look like when you actually "get good" at it. A puddle of water maybe? You need to post these pics in the "Cool Cache Containers" thread. +Jester2112
I hate it. You are a bad cacher, bad, bad, bad cacher. Take all the camo off of it and paint it blaze orange. Then put flags all over it. Otherwise...I'll never stand a chance at finding one of yours!!!! AWESOME JOB!!!! Please excuse the rant above, I'm just jealous is all. Quote Link to comment

New England n00b
The ONLY thing I can see wrong (possibly) with it is if the container lid flexes when being pulled on/off, the camo might flake off, revealing teh white underneath. I might've given it a coat of Krylon, but I'm not sure how that container is. Sure looks good though. Nice job! Quote Link to comment
briansnat
Nice camo job. The only potential problem I see is that after a few openings and closings a paint bucket won't be waterproof. Be prepared to make frequent maint runs. If the opening is at the bottom that will help a bit though. Edited October 4, 2005 by briansnat Quote Link to comment
Markwell
I've done a similar one, but to lesser results. Very cool. Watch the chipping of the paint in the weather. White specks bleeding through will be a give-away. Quote Link to comment
FUSE_SCRC
Thanks everyone for the compliments. Good to know that this is OK. The white showing through was a learning process. I know now that my future ones will definitly be painted before I start putting all the camo on. And it's not finished yet. The glue was still wet so I couldn't add any more dirt and such. Today it should be dry enough that I will add more to try and cover up the white even more. I hope that it will stay water proof, I had to adjust the lip so it wouldn't be so hard to take the lid on and off. I'm going to be placing this one close to home so I can do a lot of maint. checks. This is going to be a learning cache for me. For how I did it, very easy, used liquid nails and just glued pieces of bark all the way around, then where the bark didn't cover and put glue all over and attaching each piece to each other, then rubbed old leaves and dirt into the glue. I'm real curious to see how it hold up to the weather... Quote Link to comment
FletchWL
Perhaps this type of replacement top would help make the paint bucket more waterproof. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like it's threaded. As long as it has a gasket of some type it might be a better solution. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=192204 Quote Link to comment

Sue Gremlin
There really is nothing like a clever camo job. This is just an excellent effort. Excellent. We have seen a few great camo jobs which I would love to post photos of, but we know how that is. Caching sure attracts some clever folks. Quote Link to comment

Wander Lost
What you could do is forget the lid, turn the bucket upside down over an ammo can or lock-n-lock. That gives your cache an extra layer of protection and preserves the cammo a bit since people wont need to handle it as much. Quote Link to comment
Airmapper
I'd like to know how he did it cause I've got a 2 gallon metal barrel with a sealing lid and ring. It'll be pretty waterproof, unless you submerge it, and any cacher with common sense will be able to open /close over and over again without hurting the seal. Quote Link to comment

Wander Lost
You think that's funny check this thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=110883 I saw that thread, that's partly why I was laughing. One thing that is in extremely short supply is Common Sense. Geocachers by and large have more than the average person, but that isn't saying much sometimes. Quote Link to comment
Airmapper
You would think people that can use a complicated GPS unit to find a L&L or any other container in the woods could at least be intelligent enough to put it back like they found it. I'm still curious about how FUSE SCRC did his camo job, did you use some kind of glue?? Quote Link to comment

It'll be pretty waterproof, unless you submerge it, and any cacher with common sense will be able to open /close over and over again without hurting the seal. Hey there Airmapper... Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I didn't get on the forums the last week or so. Here is a copy of what I emailed another fellow Geocacher on how I did it. "This was put together in about 30 - 45 minutes. I wasn't really sure what I was going to do as far as camaflaging the container till I got in the woods and started working. It was extremely easy. I knew that I wanted it to look like I log but wasn't sure how I was going to accomplish that. Basically all I did was this. I had a couple extra tubes of Liquid Nails sitting around the house. So I brought those to the woods and then started working. I just glued large pieces of bark around the sides of the container hight wise - up and down. Then for all the areas that the bark pieces did not cover I rubbed glue over the areas then rubbed dirt and crushed up leaves into the glue. Let it dry overnight and then did the glue and dirt/leave thing again the next day on any area's that I missed. Total time was 30 - 45 minutes max." See your Avatar and name, guess you fly? I'm in flight school now, have 26 hours logged in a R22. Flying is the best thing I have ever done and hope to be doing it for the rest of my life. Fly safe... Quote Link to comment
