Contemplating A Signature Item

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I am in the process of finding a signature item. Would some of you kindly tell me which you rather find in a cache?

The Lanyard would be the one with either a rubber ring to carry water bottles/ or be the rope type removable clip for cell phones or GPSr purple with white letters [Purple Lover - Chicago, Illinois] and would go in each cache I find (whenever that happens). Not too much $$ to produce.

The Coin would go in caches that I really enjoy finding or those that I hide. Quite costly, especially if I get them numbered.

Whatcha think? When I figure out how to post a picture, I will. For now, please go to my profile and view the coin there. My apologies for the extra step.

thanks in advance for your assistance.

The coin collectors will tell you to go with the coin! If you yourself are a collector you will find many other coin owners willing to trade their personal coins with you, which is another advantage. But I think the lanyards are a cool idea, too. I'd be thrilled to find whatever you go with in a cache!

(I know, I'm not much help  )

I don't consider coins sig items, not in the traditional sense anyway. To me, a sig item should be something cheap enough to leave a couple in each cache you visit. A sig item should be something that everyone that wants one gets one. Business cards are popular but there's tons of things you could do. With the handle of Purple Lover, you could do about anything.

I checked out the Migo database which inspired me to create a signature card for leaving in caches I find - great idea. Question: is the signature card only left in lieu of signing the log book for the cache owner? Or, does someone scoop it up and add it to their collection?

I want a signature item to leave after my visits. I have read tons of threads in the forums and was under the impression that signature items are something that a cacher creates or has designed uniquely for them that others would most likely keep as a part of their GC treasures. And, I was hoping to have something that would appeal to cachers of all ages.

I purchased 11.5 ounce poker chips and made a custom round 1 inch sticker for the middle and basicly made my self a GEO-CHIP.

Sounds cool, how do you make the sticker, or where do you buy the blanks?

I purchased the CHIPS at Walmart you can also get them at Target. They are 10 or 11 bucks for I think 200 chips. These are the 11.5 ounce chips so they are the size and weight as real casino chips. the box comes with sever differant colors of chips and what I like is they have NO money denominations on them.

I then when to Office-Max and when to the label section and found 1 inch round lables they com 12 labels to a 4X6 or so sheet.

Then I download the WORD form from AVERY.com for using word to print to the stickers.

The one inch white round sticks are the perfect size for the center of the 11.5 ounce chips.

I have a whole container full of sig items that I have found in caches. It's getting to be a bit obsessive lately.

People who collect sig items will collect anything if it's your sig item. Do something that reflects you, your personality, or your area. It's become trendy to have a special sig item for certain events. I was handed sig items especially made for the Midwest GeoBash and the Alien Encounter this year.

Agreed. I have a coin, finally... Joefrog's Famous Geocoin, but I only leave it in the truly outstanding caches!

For the more common caches, there's Joefrog's famous Marshmallow Gun, and then for others you get one of several frogs from everyone's favorite online source... Oriental Trading!

If you do stick it in the logbook, please tape it, or make them with sticky labels or something... it seems that with every logbook we open lately, various cards and bits of paper and pictures come fluttering out, sometimes falling on the ground or getting blown away in the wind. It gets annoying.

Just thought i'd pop your really cool coin in the post.

We made a set of laminated calling cards. These are inspired by our ciggarette card collections so its a set of 20 with different images from when we have been caching on the front and back of each card.

We leave one in every cache but numbers 1 and 20 are slightly rarer to find (20% less likely to be exact). we are planning on some limited edition cards where the image's etc would be deleted after the cards are printed for milestone caches.

We also have a special event only card.

Would love to do a coin but the cost is just to high for us i'm afraid. Whatever you do i would collect them.
