I have been getting the

Server Error in '/' Application.

messages when trying to get on to GC.com for the past 5 mins or so

after yesterday's total "crash" I am concerned -

do we have some problems at gc?

is there anything I/we can do?

Now I can get on but it is REALLY slow, like takes 5mins to load over my cable interent connection

It took a while but I was able to get through and run a pocket query or we wouldn't be doing any caching today. Keep trying.

It is doing it to me too. Then when I get on it's very slow. No biggie...I'm on now :blink:

Yeah, I was noticing how slow it was too. Doesn't seem normal to me considering how early it is here.

Tell Groundspeak that the money you paid for GC.com should go towards improving and benefitting GC.com, not towards developing WM.com (Waymarking.com).

I have not ever seen it this bad on a sunday, I wonder if GC.com is suffering a denial of service attack.

Well, it is working on and off. For me I will push the refresh button and eventually get the site to work...but then the next thing I click, "the server is to busy" will pop back up.

I was on for a MINUTE, I was logging finds then server to busy, now I can't get on, it's been trying to load for 20 minutes.

This sucks...

EDIT to fix a double post

I cant get on to anything requireing a sign in. I can view cache listings alright but I cannot sign in or anything like that

also I think the email system might be down

I think I know what the problem is. From Elias' "More DB Issues" post yesterday:

The Server Too Busy errors that have been seen on the site in the last couple of days is the result of the database not properly flushing and recycling connections.

If people would just remember to flush the database after using it, I think we'd all be better off. :rolleyes:

Hey Guys and Gals,

This site is run by computers and software, both of which eventually require some sort of maintenance. Be patient and go take a nap. A couple of hundred individuals sitting there hitting refresh at the same time is the same thing as a denial of service attack. Chill out, go to Dairy Queen and get a waymark out of the way and get an ice cream cone and them come back and try it again.

Nice plug for Waymarking if I do say so my self.... :rolleyes: <_< :cry:

Seriously, lets give them some time to work thru the issues. Even Earthlink, Microsoft, Apple, Cnn....... they all have technical difficulties at times. We have had issues in the past and Jeremy and Elias have done excellent work in getting the site back up and running and I have every confidence in the world that they will succeed again.

Ah, my fault. I paused the PQ Generator when I was working on the site earlier. Its back on and processing queries. You should get them shortly.

Well, I'm having to come in through the backdoor. I come through Forums and then click on my state. I then click on the menu on the left to go where I want to go in GC.

When I try to go directly to GC, I get a 'down for maintenance window.' No big deal except this has been going on for 2 days.

I can get in. It just takes me 30 more seconds. No biggie.

You shouldn't be receiving that message anymore. That message was only up for about a half-hour yesterday morning. Try clearning your browser's cache to see if it clears up.

I have been getting geocaching.com is down for maintence all day. This has been popping up since yesterday but my daughter in Colorado can bring up geocaching without going through Groundspeak. Is the servers down for the homepage in Texas

If you're on AOL, Elias suggested clearing the cache. Me, the big dummy, couldn't figure it out and he did. He did what I should have done and went to AOL's FAQ.

~To simplify, go to Settings, it's on your toolbar. You should get a Settings Index page.

~Go to 'Browser Settings'.

~You'll get 2 tabs. Click on "Clear My Footprints".

~Click on "Select Footprints to Clear". Make sure you click on, checkmark, "Browser Cache" to clear. The rest of the selections are up to you.

~Once you've finished your selections, click "Clear Selected Footprints" at the bottom of the window.

It then goes to work.
