Jodi's Rest Stop for Harmon was almost my last find. Fell

face down into a pile of rocks from a stable standing position.

I suspect that my fall was Janie's fault but I can't prove it.

 

I've been saving #4,000 until Sandy is able to be with me. Thing

is that she spent the past week in Arizona with her mother and

her sisters. Imagine ... that close but no cigar until she returned.

 

Maybe today with Sandy but certainly not on a mountain-top due

to her rebuilt big toe that's coming along nicely but still mending.

 

Finally I owe most of my find-count to the Geobabes and since

those days to my super hiking pal Janie of Splashette fame.

Janie badgered me up more mountain trails than I can recall.

 

My final push toward 4,000 included Guatay Mountain, Mt. Wood-

son, Mt. Miguel, Sweetwater Reservoir, north of the fifty-two,

and most recently Barber Road. Thank you all for the many hides

on county power trails.

 

My only regret is that 4,000 finds aren't even half of what is

respectable in San Diego County. I suppose that tagging along

behind Geocaching super-stars is the best that an old man can

hope for.

is providing technical support to others, now quite a few. The payoff is

seeing this recreation grow and prosper with new hides almost every

Geocaching community. That makse it easy to be helpful. With Joe

I had to hurry to be useful because I knew that he would figure

out answers by himself; you know, while I was trudging along on

the Crest trails time after time.

Baldy & Goldilocks claimed their thousandth find yesterday

and they are both relieved and proud to make it to such an

important milestone. Sandy and I worked ourselves silly

pushing them over the top with their personal-best Geocach-

ing day of twenty-seven finds.

 

They started Geocaching by using the SD Rowdies account

way back in 2001 while vacationing near Mt. Shasta. Here's

a couple that met and married as members of the U.S. Air

Force. Both retired, sorta, Baldy is a Stanford engineering

graduate and professional trombonist; go figure. Goldilocks

spent years as a Physical Therapist for Kaiser and still does

so part time because Baldy is mean and won't let her retire.

 

The story that will get your attention is that while in the Air

Force Goldilocks dated Ken Mattingly, backup astronaut for

the ill-fated Apollo 13 misson and then Command Module

Pilot for Apollo 16. In the end it was Baldy that beat Ken

Mattingly to the alter and married Goldilocks. That should

give you a good idea of his strong points.

 

So, puh-lease, log on and give a big cheer to

one-thousand finds for this strang but lovely couple.
