Thank you lulu and to all the others for the congratulations and for their accomplishments and milestones ! I'm back to work at the school and at The Chiropractic Center but that won't stop me from caching, especially on the weekends. With Marisa at GCU, my cache territory also expands to AZ. Quote

+SD Rowdies Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) Gee, thanks for honoring the 5,000th find for SD Rowdies. Yes, our milestone find was at the south end of the coliseum in Rome on the first day of our Italian adventure. An urban micro but claimed to be the most popular Geocache in Italy. Seemed like an appropriate milestone find. Our 5,000th find was here! Was hard to find time for Geocaching but did score five finds and, I'm proud to say, posted one DNF. Finds were in Rome, Florence, Cortina, Venice and also in Lugano, Switzerland. In Florence the hide was beside the basilica where the remains of Leonardo De Vinci and Michaelangelo are said to lie. Hard to know for sure because the ancient Italians liked to divvy-up bones so's several basilicas could claim a little piece of saints and notables. For example, several basilicas displayed a piece of the actual and renowned crown-of-thorns but, lucky us, St. Peters had the entire crown-of-thorns on display. Go figure. Lugano was the toughest find because I had limited time and had to climb 182-steps of a stairway up to the top of a steep hill, then walk a good while to get around a fenced railroad right-of-way, and finally hike back along the other side of the railway and up into a park for the score. The cache listing was written in Deustch and Italiano of course and the Italiano hint was "Nel tronco." The final challenge was to relocate Sandy as she walked through the shops and streets of Lugano. Wound up sweaty and weak-kneed but walked right into Sandy by chance in the town square. Line of sight distance to the cache was only 0.13 mile but y'all know how it can be with boots on the ground. So close yet so far! One highlight of our trip was a night-time approach to the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome ... having to plow our way through four city blocks thronged with a huge animal-rights march with police helicopters above and squads of police along our way. We made it to the Spanish Steps but, technically, we didn't really see them because they were completely covered, top to bottom, with a huge crowd of revelers mixed with the throng of animal- rights marchers. Being part of the largest gathering ever at Spanish Steps was a bonus. ... nope, didn't get my pocket picked thank y' very much. Thanks pals, Harmon & Sandy SD Rowdies Note to Self: It's nice to be noticed. Edited October 10, 2010 by SD Rowdies Quote

+SD Rowdies Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) Joe, be careful what you ask for. Sandy and I took a total of 2,257 photos. Panoramas run the count up pretty fast but its the only way to capture high resolution shots when up against large structures. Ex-nun at home base! Good example of using a two-frame vertical panorama. No other way to capture the detail. Taxi stand in Venice. Parking lot in Florence ... no LPCs. Crowd at Trevi Fountain Toss a coin over your shoulder into the fountain? Hah! try that from fifty-yards. Well actually, we did work our way down to the fountain for the toss. Dolomites west of Cortina Headed to our cable-car ride into and above the clouds. Edited October 10, 2010 by SD Rowdies Quote

Jodi dear, How's my gal pal? I missed you while I was trotting about in Italy. No, seriously, I missed you ... honest I did. Yesterday I swapped the European chip out of my 60csX and loaded unfound home-zone caches into it. First thing I looked at was those danged S.U.C. caches along Mission Gorge Road. Back to the reality of local Geocaching once again and feeling way behind on the hiking trails. Sweet ol' Harmon Quote

+SD Rowdies Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Way to go Harmon on and he did it in Italy Very nice ole buddy...second only to a S.U.C. Congrats and Welcome Home! Sweet ol' Harmon I really did miss ya Harmon.. and I do understand why 5000 had to be in Italy and not one of MY caches..it's ok. CONGRATS HARMON & the SD Rowdies! Haven't seen a cooler place to go for a milestone yet! -BretboyRara Thanks coming in from Lakeside ... I feel good! Lemme see, who else do I know from Lakeside? O'm'gosh, Jodi is trying to kill me once again ... look at all of those contaners! When the pope ... oops ... when the Pope saw me in Rome he asked me why Jodi is always pickin' on me. I told him that she is my personal trainer and so she's actually just tryin' t' keep me active and healthy; you know, like my momma always told me "If y' cain't say somethin' nice then just hush up Harmon." Listen to your Momma they are always right Mm-hmm, if momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 5000 MILESTONE HARMON!!...sorry I'm late with my posting! Those are great photos that you shared with us Hi Denise, now I can put a checkmark on Alpine. Just kidding of course, you know, sort of. Sure have a lot of work to do process our huge gallery of Italian photos. Many panoramas to stitch including six-frame panoramas of huge basilicas and towers taken up close. Glad to be home for some east-county style meals. Italianos are sure focused on eating wheat paste and bottom feeders. Edited October 11, 2010 by SD Rowdies Quote
