Area Administrators For Geocaching.com

Recommended Posts

I've been in contact with the Forestry Commission Scotland and the local ranger is very positive about getting some caches out. He's worked in Wales before and the system was that a cache was put forward by a cacher to the area administrator for Geocaching.com who then liaised with the FC. The ranger is more than willing to work with a cacher directly if an area administrator for Geocaching.com doesn't exist for this region.

I am a newbie trying to work through the guidelines of contacting a landowner and am unaware of such structures with Geocaching.com.

Any knowledge out there?

The persons who he's referring to are our 2 Reviewers/Moderators, Lactodorum & Eckington. The way the system works in Wales is, a cacher puts a cache in for approval, which ever of the 2 reviewers looks at it, will contact the FC to check that the location is appropriate and pass on the details of the cache. So that the FC know about and can then inform of any work that is planned for that location. If you pass on his contact details to either of them, they will be happy to set up a similar arrangement with him.

Down here in SE Wales we've placed 3 caches on FC land. When we submitted the first one about 4 months ago Lactodorum came back to us and asked if we had obtain permission from the FC for the cache to be placed? We hadn't, because being new to the game, we thought that as it was on a public footpath specific permission wouldn't be necessary. However, we then searched the FC website and after a bit of phoning around to find which Manager covered our bit of woodland, we got permission to place it (after having to explain to him what geocaching was all about). We then told Mr L that it had been OKed and our cache was listed. For each subsequent cache we've located on FC land we have got the verbal permission ourselves from the FC Manager, and once the cache has been activated we have followed up our telephone conversations with a print-out of the cache details and a covering letter.
