bnolan
I have a job offer in Richmond Virginia. Before I accept the offer, I want to find out how good the geocaching is there. Plus any other info about the area you could provide would be appreciated. I'm sure it is going to be a huge change from the deserts of southern Idaho. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Well if its anything like northern Va.....don't accept. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
It's a good time to sell your home here and the caching has to be better than here. Both easier to find and actually having something to find to begin with. Quote Link to comment
+Cacheola Crew
We used to live in Newport News--about an hour or so south of Richmond. There is lots of good caching in Richmond. (and a bunch more in the Hampton Roads area). My uncle teaches school there and likes everything about the city except the heat. Here's a link for Central VA Geocachers yahoo group. Maybe they can give you more info about Richmond. Cacheola Crew Mom Edited September 1, 2005 by Cacheola Crew Quote Link to comment
+ParrotRobAndCeCe
I used to work at the fifth district Federal Reserve bank in downtown Richmond. Richmond is a far cry from Northern Virginia, in many ways. The traffic isn't nearly as bad. There isn't as much sprawl. The cost of living isn't as high. That said, I hate the city. It is nasty and it smells bad. But then again, I think that about most cities. YMMV. Quote Link to comment
+pixieslayer
I'm not a huge fan of Richmond, it reminds me of Houston. However, traffic wasn't bad when I visited. I live in Fairfax, and it takes about 1.5 hours to drive down there. There seems to be a decent amount of caching there... enough that I sorta didn't do what I originally went there to do . Oops, oh well, just means another day trip down there. I was not completely sold on North Virginia when I moved here from Dallas. However, being able to go to the mountains (Shenandoah or Blue Ridge) or to DC or NYC within in a few hours definitely offers quite a bit of variety if you feel the need to get out of dodge. Not sure if you're into music, but NoVa gets some decent acts, and cities like Philly, NYC, and Pittsburgh are close enough to do an overnight trip for a concert. Quote Link to comment
mortonfox
Don't let cache availability dissuade you from taking the job offer, if it is a good job offer. You could always place the kind of caches that you like. Quote Link to comment
bnolan
About a year and a half ago, I had three different job offers in different cities. Unfortunately the town I picked has a local idiot who steals every cache that is put out. If somebody had warned me about that, I may have picked a different city. Quote Link to comment
