Moth Balls In Cache

I thought insects WERE animals?

 

Seriously, though, please only do this if you are absolutely sure your cache is air and watertight, especially if you are planning on using naphthalene moth balls. Naphthalene is NOT something you want leaching into the soil and into your water supply. There is a reason why mothballs are only supposed to be used in sealed environments.

 

Besides which, it's also technically illegal to put them outside under the FIFRA act - Title 7 USC Ch. 6, subchapter II, Section 136j, P (a)(2)(g)

Please DO NOT do this!! Some people are very sensitive to the smell of noxious chemicals, including moth balls and insecticides.

 

Geocaching is a way to get out into fresh air. We should not be exposed to these chemicals when we are out on a cache hunt.

Please do not put moth balls in your cache.

 

There are some odors that give me almost instant migraines and at the very least make me feel queasy. It would not be cool for me to open a cache to find moth balls! If you must put moth balls in your cache then make sure you have it listed on your cache page that you did so, then I and others who have the same problem can avoid the cache.

 

For many years closets and trunks were lined with cedar as a deterent for bugs, perhaps putting cedar chips in your cache is an alternative.
