Geocoins Versus Travel Bugs

Of the 46 line items that appear on our display when we just clicked on the Travel Bug forum link, 32 were for a geocoin topic. That doesn't count the wooden nickel one. Unless We've really boogered up the math, that works out to 70% of the first page of the TB forum being dedicated to coins at this moment.

Maybe it is time for a separate forum for the coinage folk. We have no issue with coins, they're as cool as any other TB, and obviously, some people/groups put a lot of time/effort/money into them. We just wonder what percentage of them are really travel bugs. By which we mean, what percentage of the coins out there are actually on the move. We suspect that the number on the move is significantly lower than the number of "other object" travel bugs. If this is the case, perhaps they do belong in their own forum, and don't belong cluttering up this one.

We placed 5 USAGeocoins today, as travel bugs with specific goals, whose intent is to move, and gather stories pictures and history, just as any other travelbug. We're not overly inclined to purchase and dod the same with some of the lovely other state ot person specific coins that we've seen, as we don't have any faith that they wouldn't be snapped up by some collector and frozen in space in time, which, in our opinion, is not the purpose of a travel bug.
