+mcl143 Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 It is cool to explore old railroad tunnels and some new ones. There are a couple old decommissioned railroad tunnels near where I live. Some rails to trails take you through these places. Just seemed like this would be a good catagory.
Luffliffloaf Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 There is one here that goes under the road. It's a total of 20 feet long. Would that qualify? Thanks
+mcl143 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Posted August 19, 2005 I would think any railroad tunnel would qualify. However I was thinking more of the old style stone ones that are a little longer than 20'.
Luffliffloaf Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Yeah I guess you're right. Only thing is then you're really limited to mountainous areas. Not that that's a bad thing though. Thanks. I dig the category myself. I vote yes.
+GeoBlank Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Come to washington, we have a 2.1 mile tunnel that is great for biking. It is almost straight. You can see the postage stamp sized light at the end creaping near you. Bonus project ape cache at the end!
Luffliffloaf Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Yeah and think about those awesome abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike tunnels! Those are AWESOME!
+Hobobrother Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I've been caught in a tunnel with a train coming. Talk about an adrenalin rush! A cautious yes.
