+libertylady Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 These would be a list of sites where petroglyphs are available for viewing.
+Team GPSaxophone Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Will it include modern-day graffiti too or just the stuff that's been around long enough to be considered "historic"? Yes, I'm serious.
+Ambrosia Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 This is currently a locationless, A Picture Says a Thousand Words.
+Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Wouldnt that upset the archaeology people? I know they try and keep those sites a secret around here to prevent vandalism or outright theft.
+libertylady Posted August 19, 2005 Author Posted August 19, 2005 This is currently a locationless, A Picture Says a Thousand Words. Yes, that is right. I hope that means that it will automatically become a category. Those are fun to explore. Those that are kept secret, like in Escalante Staircase, for example, just wouldn't be included. It would only be those open to the public, which are usually protected in some way.

It would only be those open to the public, which are usually protected in some way. There are some that are in public areas that are still secret. I know of some in Dinosaur National Park that the rangers will never tell you about but, if you describe them, the rangers know exactly what you are talking about. They are just off a well traveled trail but not obvious to the casual passerby. They are kept secret simply by not being published as an attraction. Zion National Park publishes many of their petroglyphs but they also have some that are fragile so they just don't say anything about them. You can find them though without breaking any park rules. Publicly "out" them here with multiple sightings and it could be a problem.
