+Crooked Crow
Just wondering, I would like a topo map for my Legend C of a specific 5 mile square area. It is a bit overkill to purchase the nation-wide topo map. Are there any alternatives? Thanks! Edited August 17, 2005 by tolmark12 Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
Sure. See this thread. Rich Owings www.MakeYourOwnMaps.com www.GPStracklog.com "We were desert mystics, my friends and I, poring over our maps as others do their holy books." - Edward Abbey Quote Link to comment
+overtaxed1
If you are looking for a detailed topo map you'd be better off purchasing a hard copy or the National Geographic State Series. The topo detail on your GPSr isn't going to be all that great, but better than a blank screen with the "You are here" arrow. There are some alternatives, but from what I've read they involve a lot of work to get onto the GPSr. Just scroll through the posts and you'll find instructions on creating your own maps. BTW I have the NG state TOPO! and really like it - it can be downloaded onto a Palm although I haven't used it, I usually just print out a map. HTH Quote Link to comment
+Crooked Crow
Thanks for the info, I really like what I saw at the National Geographic website, I think that is the way to go. Do you know if you can tranfer waypoints from the NG software to a Garmin unit on a mac? Thanks Again! Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Just to clarify - you CANNOT load National Geographic maps INTO your GPSR! Quote Link to comment
tubemonkey
Do you know if you can tranfer waypoints from the NG software to a Garmin unit on a mac? Yes; you can transfer routes and waypoints, but NOT maps. Keep in mind that MAC support for NG maps is limited to the State and Regional Series only. Check this link for compatibility: Operating System Compatibility with TOPO! Software Quote Link to comment
