Moving Caches

I see instances in logs where finders will state that the cache was not found where the log sheet coordinates indicated it should be and have moved it to where they "thought" it should be based on their GPS coordinate reading. My feeling on this is to leave the cache where you find it. Your GPS reading may be in error. Specify your findings when you log the cache and leave it to the owner to determine if needs to be moved. If everyone moved a cache based on their readings, the cache may end of quite a distance from the original location and the DNFs will begin to add up.

It's best not to move them. My opinion is that if finders are consistently complaining about coordinates, then the owner needs to head out and do a thorough check of the digits and possibly adjust the listing. If the finders were to move the cache to what they percieve are the correct coordinates, then there is a chance that the owner would not be able to find the cache for maintenance.

That being said, the third cache I found on my first day of caching was very exposed in our novice opinion. We could see it from the bench that is provided for the view. The other cacher and I though we would move it one tree back to hide it a better. At that point we were only trying to help out. Well it didn't work out that well for the cache owner and we both learned a geocaching lesson.

Here was the resulting log <_<

It was really a bummer since some of the people searching after us could not find it either. Although it was pretty close <_<

Occasionally when we have been searching for a cache we have found it somwhere other than where the clue said it was or in a place where the coords. were quite a bit off.

Many times in those conditons we noted on the cache page the owner wrote, "Hide it better than you found it!" I really don't care for that statement on the cache pages. Now I take it as meaning... put it back in the same spot but make sure it's covered up well and so forth. I believe to some people it means, 'HIDE' it in a better spot. Which in turn leads to it being moved around.
