+Haggis Hunter Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 (edited) I've just finished an interview with Mark Stephen the presenter of the Out of Doors programme on BBC Radio Scotland. The programme will be aired on Saturday the 13th August between 0705 - 0800 & 2105 - 2200. You can listen to it by using the link above, tuning into 92-95 FM, 810MW or on Sky Channel 866. Can any of the IT wizards out there tape it, and post a copy onto here please. I can't do it for 2 reasons, 1: I don't know how to & 2: I will be travelling up to Aviemore for the SGDO when it is aired. I think I done OK, a few hiccups now and again, I'm hoping he will edit them out, I doubt it though . I also told the basic history from the top of my head, so if it is wrong, then TUFF!! The main thing is that I hope you all enjoy it, and it gets even more enthusiastic people to the sport. Oh yeah, I must mention that it should have been Firth of Forth that done the interview, but when they first wanted to meet, she was in London, so she kindly spammed me Edited August 10, 2005 by Haggis Hunter Quote
+Firth of Forth Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Rather you than me, Dave!! I look forward to listening to it as we drive to Aviemore. Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted August 10, 2005 Author Posted August 10, 2005 The programme will be aired on Saturday the 13th August between 0705 - 0800 & 2105 - 2200. I took these timings from the business card that he gave me, going by the information on the website, there will only be one airing at 0705-0800. Rather you than me, Dave!! Now I know why you sent them in my direction Quote
whereaminoo Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Panic not!! You can hear it again because I've checked and Radio Scotland (http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/) does that clever listen again thing. I have managed to 'tape' things in the past (Soundforge and a cable) but a whole half hour will be a big mp3 file. I'll try and remember not to forget and if successful I'll see if I can't get a copy to you by leaving it on a CD in a geocache somewhere close by. Or I could just email it if you don't mind waiting for it to download. I'll try uploading here but it will be big and copyright..... Quote
+wildlifewriter Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 A great effort by HH - lucid and and articulate, with all the points covered - drystane dikes included. As Ian says, you can listen to the whole program during this week (and it's very interesting). For those that can't, there might be an edited MP3 version HERE. 2.8Mb (copyright © BBC Radio Scotland.) This recording is a bit variable in quality as it was done in something of a rush - I'll try to improve the quality over the weekend. -Wlw. Quote
whereaminoo Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Full blown 24mb download at Out of Doors Download. Once you have the file, change the .bla to .mp3 for it to work. It took me about 6mins to test download (2MB broadand link). don't try it with a modem. I was going to edit it but the interesting bits are at the start and half way through approx. Good prog!! Quote
+Naefearjustbeer Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Excellent that was a great broadcast well done Quote
+kbootb Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 What an excellent programme, and a really nice geocaching article. Could sense the enthusiasm from the presenter, sounded genuinely to 'get it'. Quote
+Teuchters Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 A good broadcast Dave. Go on, name the names who took 45 mins LOL! Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted August 14, 2005 Author Posted August 14, 2005 (edited) Thanks everyone, the presenter did enjoy himself, and I enjoyed taking him out. Thanks to all the people who have recorded it, I will try and download it later. Go on, name the names who took 45 mins LOL! They read these forums on a daily basis, so I will let them come forward, or you could just read the early logs for the cache page Edited August 14, 2005 by Haggis Hunter Quote
+wildlifewriter Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 [They read these forums on a daily basis, so I will let them come forward, or you could just read the early logs for the cache page It's an open secret that the first on the scene were Team Ullium & Wildlifewriter. In our own defence, it should be noted that... (i) It didn't take us (Bill) 45 minutes to find it, or anything like. (ii) The whole site happened to be under two feet of snow. (iii) We were constantly distracted by an unwashed and unshaven dosser who capered about, uttering cries of "See yew, gwan a heuchtie whapit' frang ye gowks..." and similar, in the barbaric dialect of that benighted region. It's a wonder we managed to find it at all. -Wlw Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted August 14, 2005 Author Posted August 14, 2005 (edited) Two feet of snow, you would have been lucky if it had been 2cm, in the vague patches that were around. I remember one comment, whilst stood directly above it, My GPS is saying '0' I said well it would It still took another 10 minutes after that. Everything else wlw says is true of course. Here is a picture straight after the find, the unshaven dosser is the guy in the light blue jacket that has fallen asleep. Edit: P.S. Take a look at how deep that snow is!! +paul.blitz Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Well, just had a listen, and what can I say but "spot on!"... and that apples to both HH and the BBC team... nicely explained, not sensationalised, but made interesting. Paul Quote
+Team Maddie UK Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Just downloaded and listened to this gem. Nice job HH!! Nicely explained and it sounded like the presenter was well and truly hooked. Martin & Lynn Quote
+Firth of Forth Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 (edited) Haggis Hunter, roolku, Jack Aubrey and I listened to the programme live on our way to Aviemore to attend 'Another SGDO - Ben Macdui'. Despite a brief loss of radio reception, we enjoyed it tremendously. I think that HH has done a fabulous job promoting geocaching. Well done Dave! +Geoki Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 You'll be pleased to know that having heard your bit on the radio there has been a new lot of cachers that have found their first one today. Well done HH, and as they are in Aberdeenshire here's hoping for some more. Quote
+McDeHack Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Best that I have heard so far. Well presented for the hobby. Quote
+John Stead Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 That was really good - pity it won't be generally heard South of the Border. As a Sassenach I didn't even need a translation - except that thing with holes! Quote
+littlejim Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 It takes Radio Scotland (and HH ) to make a program about the outdoors (and geocaching) that makes sense! well done Quote

+Mustard Devil Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Well done Downloaded and listened to here in Houston, Texas Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 For those that can't, there might be an edited MP3 version HERE. 2.8Mb (copyright © BBC Radio Scotland.) This recording is a bit variable in quality as it was done in something of a rush - I'll try to improve the quality over the weekend. -Wlw. I would like to thank Wlw for taking the time to re-edit the above copy of the recording, it is now a lot clearer and has the same volume output all the way through. People may not think that is important, as it is a dead subject now, but I have put the above link onto the visited cache pages so that newcomers can here it to. Quote
whereaminoo Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Just for information - I've checked the web log and the full blown 24mb version of the programme has been downloaded about 42x equating to over a gig! The last one was 24th August so I'll leave the file in place for a while longer. Cheers! Whereaminoo Quote
