wow that's neat how many ppl you meet!!

but there are a few of us whom haven't met anybody,, is it because we just started? or for me it's because I don't think there are many in my area that do it,, I want to start stashing some, and hope to get some more people interested here,, would be neat!!!

Yesterday I received an email through the Geocaching.com email bot that said, "Were you at Casey's in Oakland Tuesday afternoon buying the expensive gasoline?" LOL, yes I was! He saw my Durango and noticed the "GEOCACHER-U.COM" sticker on the back glass. Turns out he's a newbie that lives about 25 miles north of me.

 

I've had other emails and have seen logs from cachers who just missed me at cache sites. I'm always a little disappointed when it turns out I just missed someone.

 

As for meeting on the trails, the first cacher I ever met was RCharlier, owner of the infamous "The Journal" here in Illinois. After that it was a long time before I met anyone else while searching for a cache. I've had the pleasure of caching with several of the forum regulars as well as just hanging out with even more.

 

When I started this game I never expected to make friends through it. I figured I'd keep to myself, find caches and hide a few. Now the vast majority of my friends are people I've either met through this game or brought into this game. Weird, huh?

I think meeting great people is one of the side benefits of this sport. I've met quite a few cachers, but I see some lists that make mine pale in comparison.

Wow, something kind of funny.

 

I can get one degree of separation on most of the people who have posted so far.  I've met Mopar and GeoHo, Stayfloopy, Skully and Mulder et al, Deermark, Indy Diver and Jeremy.  That hits almost everyone in this topic.  I have personally met (posted in this topic) robert, sbell111, Mopar, El Diablo and CYBret.  Eagles61, you and I were both at GeoWoodstock I in Louisville.  You can add me to your list.

Too hard to keep a list around these parts. I've gone caching with probably around 100 cachers. I've run about 50 cachers on the trail. At Joani's birthday bash event, we had 150 people show up. Good times. If I tried to come up with a list, I'm sure I would forget some people.

I've only met one other cacher (or cachers, it was a family) on the trail. My girlfriend and I were up in Bangor, Maine looking for a few in March, when we came upon fellow cachers. We tag-teamed the search since we met at the site. none of us could find it under the snow though.

 

Never did get their names though.

I have a new funny story about meeting other geocachers. I was caching with my sister and her husband, NikiJohn, yesterday when we ran into other cachers, cachestation and Dee, at a cache. I had met others while caching before, but my companions never had. I saw them first, and knew they were geocaching (I had found the cache last week, it was not very close to the trail, and they were standing right at it), so I said "there are geocachers at the cache." My sister just froze, and after a few seconds worriedly asked "what do we do?" It was priceless. I told her "we go say hi." So, we went on in and introduced ourselves. They were great folks, and we had a nice chat about geocaching.

My neighbor was talking about Geocaching a couple weeks ago and sounded so enthusiastic about it that I figured I'd check the web site and see what it was all about. He doesn't even know I started doing this yet and is the only person I "know" who caches. I figure I'll meet more one of these days either at a cache site or at a local N.U.T.S. (Northstate Unusual Treasure Seekers) event.

In the year I have been caching, I have had the pleasure of meeting 12 geocachers on the trail. I only record cachers on the trail, and the first time I met them. There's 10 or so others I have met in other places (distinguised by everything from a geocaching lanyard holding a work identification, tee shirts, and random "that person HAS to be a geocacher) or introduced to caching and/or with whom I have cached.

 

I am assuming no one cares, since I am relatively new, to read the list of 12 that I have met on the trail, but they are listed on my profile page for those that are curious.

 

My Jeep gets spotted more at trail heads than I get spotted on the trail. That must be the result of the "Got GPS?" and official geocaching stickers that are on a Jeep that are easily linked to me for some reason...

Too hard to keep a list around these parts.  I've gone caching with probably around 100 cachers.  I've run about 50 cachers on the trail.  At Joani's birthday bash event, we had 150 people show up.  Good times.  If I tried to come up with a list, I'm sure I would forget some people.

I met you on my first official day as a Geocacher, about 10' from one of your semi-evil hides.

 

That day, I ran into a total of 5 cachers, 2 that didn't see me because of fog (MotorBug, WeBeDnD), and one who I talked to looking for those 2 (Workerofwood) - I didn't know he was a cacher until I met him again while maintaining my own cache and he introduced himself.

 

I've run into quite a few on the trails, and of course countless people at events and un-events.

I agree, one of the cool side benefits of this sport is meeting other geocachers, no matter the way the encounter happened.

 

I've never been to a geocaching event, so my list is not that long, but here goes:
