alma Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 my wife and i are planning to go to bakewell next weekend for a few days any suggestions for caches to attempt would be welcome Quote
Andys101 & Redfrock Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 we've just come back from 2 weeks in that area - click on our profile and you will see some of the ones we did, but 3 stand out in particular: Something Sinister... (Staffordshire) It's a Fair Cop Guv ! by Saxon and Weir is it? Some of them may be may be a bit out of the way but I'm glad we didn't miss them. See if you can get to see the church with the crooked spire in Chesterfield as well. Quote
The Hokesters Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 We recommend Cave Dale Cache with a visit to Peveril Castle and a visit to Beyond Peter's Stone wouldn't go amiss while you are there. Quote
HazelS Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Over Bank Holiday in June we cached from Cheshire over to Chesterfield and back again, and did some absolutely wonderful caches... The Little Known Ruins A Wall of Green Tidza Treat Abney Moor United Kingdom Birdsong on Abney Moor Highest Derbyshire Inn Well fancy that! The Eagle has Landed North Derbyshire Scratch Pad - II I can particularly reccommend a few... The Abney Moor ones are lovely, as is Highest Derbyshire Inn, but you HAVE to check out The Eagle has landed... absolutely stunning place! Have a great time! Quote
Archer4 Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Wash your woolies is a short walk from the centre of Bakewell and is a good container for any housebrick sized TBs you've been trying to move on Quote
The Hokesters Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Wash your wollies And its a great hide! Quote
aRRKS Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Can highly recommend The Barrel near to the Highest Derbyshire Inn cache. We actually went out of our way to return there another day after caching out of the area. Mind you we have done that twice for The Lord Raglan as well Quote
Rebel Alliance Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Hi as locals we recommend the following: Fossil transfer - nice n' easy a bit of a scramble but nothing too trying Harry's Place - beautiful virtual cache near to Fossil transfer at Monsal Dale Froggat Edge - beautiful views White on the Edge Paper Caper Jonah's journey- 5/5 rating Dam fine view Some You Win - nice long slog (we did the short route 1000 ft climb in 0.75 miles!) well worth it because the views are stunning. Words are not enough! But to be perfectly honest, you will not be disappointed with any of the Peak District caches! We highly recommend any caches placed by g0wex - co-ords are ALWAYS spot on and in stunningly beautiful areas. Views from Back Tor are amazing too - there are three caches in that area Use Your Loaf, Pushed Over the Edge (both set by us) and Back to Back. Enjoy yourself Chris Quote
The Hancock Clan Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 We are TRYING to book a campsite from Saturday 20th August in the Bakewell area. Everywhere seems quite busy though!! If we manage to get booked in.... thanks to everyone for the suggested caches. Quote
naffita Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 We are TRYING to book a campsite from Saturday 20th August in the Bakewell area. Everywhere seems quite busy though!! If we manage to get booked in.... thanks to everyone for the suggested caches. There's a very basic campsite, just cold water and a loo, at N53.16.975 W01.42.965. I've never seen it full and I'm not sure if they take bookings. Nearest village is Foolow and about 3 miles away is Eyam. Send me an e-mail if you want the phone number. Quote
