Weird Things Found While Caching

Recommended Posts

I think I found out what's been happening to all of the Yellow Jeep Travel Bugs when I was on the way out to archive the Trail Mix traditional cache in Dartmouth, Massachusetts:

On a more serious note, I would offer that EVERYTHING about the The Blue Hole-Search for the Jersey Devil traditional cache in Hammonton, New Jersey was weird and some of the pictures of the trip to the Blue Hole were disturbing.

I won't put the pictures here without warning.

Aren't ya glad the tent was erected first?

And how, might I ask, did you know it was the TENT that was erected first?

I'm one of those who found a dead body, which was a fresh suicide (she was still bleeding from the gunshot), but certainly deceased. It's certainly a sobering experience, and rather than being a total mindjob for me, I was more saddened by what her family was going to go through than seeing what I did.

Was searching for a cache and walked up on bright white deer bones all intact just sittin there. Another time while searching for a micro I came up on a rubermaid box just sittin out in the open. HMMMM this can't be the cache can it? It was full of PORN MAGS so being a good cacher I CITO the entire box into a nearby dumpster. Anybody ever hear of any cachers finding a dead body? I think it just a matter of time before some cacher somewhere stumbles onto one.

actually this has happened before I heard about it at a event cache

Oh, how horrible. That would probably cause me great emotional stress. I am not sure I would ever get over that.

We just missed a spectacularly awful one of those, but we didn't realize it for months. We noticed much police activity in the parking lot of the urban park where the cache was, so we parked at the far end. After finding the cache, we were stopped and questioned by the police twice when we tried to leave. They said there had been an "incident" and a "fatality". We checked the news for a few days, but found no mention of what it was.

Then, months later, Uncle Badger was reading the Strange Deaths section of Fortean Times and came upon a description of a man who had committed suicide in that park by tying one end of a rope around a tree and the other around his neck, getting in his car and hitting the accelerator, with the predictable result. Yes, the dates matched. We checked our log.

Hm. I'd encrypt that second paragraph if there were a tag for that.

same of these stories are funny...

nothing special here except for:

bright white jockey mens undies in the parking lot of a casino in vegas....didnt get extra points for that find tho....

several (in different areas) womens panties and one bra...

used condoms...if they used them in that vacinity it must have been very painful...

a pair of jogging pants, a pair of tennis shoes, and a tshirt near a cache...at first i thought it was a child laying there but as i looked closer it was clothes..then i thought oh my god theres a naked man somewheres in here watching me!!!!!!!!...but others have found the clothes after me so either the clothes have been left there OR the naked man in the bushes is still out there....

another cache logs warning of a dead deer and the smell from it but luckily i didnt see or smell the deer when i was there...

seen lots of live deer...

I have not found any dead human bodies yet. I do keep on the lookout for them though. :D I'll be sure to file a report when I do find one. I think that I am due any day now because I look so earnestly ever time that I go out caching. I believe in the power of positive thinking. :( And I positively want to find a dead human body that is about 35% decomposed. Stay tuned.

:D When you find it get up close and inhale deeply through your nose.

An experience to remember.

Once upon a time, On the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference forum, I posted a list of things that I had removed from the trail that I maintain, over the course of a year. Excluding the beer cans and other beverage containers (which totalled in the hundreds) (Bud Light seems to be the beer of choice for slobs. But the bottle of SoBe with yohimbe?!?) Among unusual items removed were: 1 pair men's boxers, size medium, color blue. 1 baseball bat, small. 1 fork. 1 black clog, children's, right foot. (I really hope someone carried that child out!) 1 beer ball (I had no idea what it was. I thought maybe an alien space vessel.)

As to geocaching, I seem to find a lot of condom wrappers. Bear, turkeys, rattlesnakes? They're expected. Turtles mating? Part of nature...

Someone once told me that any Jeep can be rebuilt. I'd like to see him with that one.

I would like to see any one try to pull it out of the wood :D

We found a baggie of marijuana on a hiking trail once. About 100 feet away, there were some kids skateboarding so Chris picked it up and we tossed it in the trash later. We were in great fear that we would be stopped and arrested for illegal drug posession ...yeah sure you were just trying to keep drugs out of the hands of teenagers...yeah sure it isn't yours...we've heard it all before!

A caching friend of mine lives in an area heavily traveled by drug smugglers and illegal aliens, and while out caching/4-wheeling came across a very large bundle of the wacky tobacky. Something like a 60 or 100lb bale of the stuff. He waypointed it and drove out to meet the cops who confiscated it.

I'd be in counseling for ages and would might debate whether I would want to continue caching...

I was caching at "Back to School is Cool at Crabapple Lake" and found a campsite in the valley below the cache. Two sleeping bags, some candles, cigar tubes, panties, whiskey jar, toothbrush, bowling ball, and a 20 foot length of rope.

I run by the area frequently, and every time something new at the site shows up.

When I found Turtle Hill then entire cache appeared to have been burned. It appeared as though someone had set fire the contents and then sealed the cache back up. Of course, this meant that the contents only burned for a short while before the oxygen was exhausted. That would explain why the contents weren't completely incinerated, but it they certainly were black, charred and pretty nasty. The log book was also gone. Needless to say, TNLN!

I came across two healthy marijuana plants- about four feet tall each- growing in plastic containers very very close to the last part of a multi cache. When I was approaching the final coords--- I saw the plastic containers, and thought to myself "boy, they sure didn't try to hide the final cache !!" but then realized that this wasn't the cache that I was searching for... TNLN :laughing:

Last month when out caching with the kids, we were looking for an alternate path to a cache to avoid some picknicking Muggles. When approaching from the seacoast, I noticed a sunbather. From 100 feet I was hoping he was wearing a skimpy suit (I could not see any trunks). As we got a little closer, I noticed he was not. Eewww!!

We quickly called back our 10 year old son who was treking ahead.

...and I'm back with another. Today I'm out at this secluded spot checking out a neat little opening in a rock wall (almost a cave, but not quite deep enough) I found recently and wanted to put a cache in. It's pretty small, fitting one person comfortably, and it has cool nooks in its walls that would hide an ammo can perfectly. It sits just downstream from an old dam which is beautiful when the water is flowing. Perfect spot for a cache, right? So I'm getting a second reading from the GPS when my friend says "Umm, there's a spoon in here," and then a few seconds pass before he continues with "Whoa, hello... Syringes! Good spot you found here."

I have the best luck ever.
