Worlds Longest Multi "stages"

I know that this has been discussed before but when I searched for it I never got the answer I was looking for. What is the longest multi cache in terms of stages?? If someone could tell me I would be more than happy to close the topic.

Here in Austin we have The MONSTER which is made up of 40 stages and was made from a cooperative effort of area cachers.

There is a 100 stage "New England Monster" in the works. I think there may be a shortage of volunteer hiders.

Here in GA we have one placed by a single cacher that is 100 miles or so from the first point to the final cache, straight line distance. He does a great job of maintaining it.

I've seen one where the total distance between the waypoints is 6000 miles...Now that's a long walk!

South Carolina has "The Mother of All Caches" that requires you to drive the full length of the state two full round trips.

I have hosted for 3 years the NJ statewide hunt where 10 stages where hidden. The hunt took a cacher all over the state and I believe one cacher measured approx 2000 miles.

Silly Kitty, I don't think the OP was asking about these caches; he wanted to know what multicache has the greatest number of stages . At least I think that's what he wanted to know.

I have never heard of anything bigger than the Monster in TX.

I can't tell what the local answer is, but its less than 40 and still a lot of stages.

Wow 40 stages, that a large area to cover. I will leave this one open for a bit longer to see if anyone has found one bigger than 40 stages.

Can you have a multi-cache that you have an option for when someone finds it, they place another stage to the cache and leave the coordinates in the cache before it. Like a multi-cache that keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Each new cache would have to be reviewed and approved, and the difficulty/terrain/ description would likely have to change with each addition. Who would be responsible for maintaining each stage? The owner? Seems unfair (and impossible) for him to have to maintain all those caches (5, 10, 20, 50...no telling how many) he has never even seen. The hiders? Yeah, right. The cache idea, while novel, seems like it would be a GIGANTIC headache for all involved.

Here's a 45 stage multi in my neck of the woods (Bay Area, CA). Haven't tackled it yet, especially with 100º temperatures now.

I just completed a coast-to-coast multi, called Meet Someone New. Given, I only had to find one of the stages, but that's a pretty good hike to the other end!

Poppa tried placing one (and called it a build-a-cache) and the admin's denied it. The issue was that they wanted to make sure the stages were placed safely (ie: no train tracks, military bases, etc) and far enough from other caches.

I thought it was a great idea, but their arguments made sense.

(but that never stopped anybody from putting the coordinates for an unlisted bonus cache or two in an existing cache...)

I think that could be handled easily by only allowing additions to the start point. Every time you want to add a new start, you have to leave a note in the current start with the coordinates and then present it to the owner and reviewers. That way no one will usurp the new starting point by adding their own and the new starting point won't become official until it is approved and put on the web page.

 

I like this idea. I have an idea of a long multi for the churches of Frederick County. But rather than to try to get it all in place at one time, a few could be done as a start and others added over time. If they are added as I describe above, it should all be seamless.

If you mean longest distance between stages, This oneSeems to have some pretty long didtances, depending on the exact adventure you are given.

 

Foer most stages This onenear me has 45 caches, with a code in each that is neede to find the final for 46 caches totel.

wow, these are some long caches, the most i have ever done is a 9 stage, and that took forever
