The New Jersey Thread

Uh, why don't you try the North or South Jersey clubs' sites?

Because I'd rather like to see something on the Groundspeak site that encomapsses the state as a whole. Out west there are several forums dedicated to regions in addition to the club sites.

And to answer the other question...I'm not sure. What weird sites are there in NJ?

And we should be hearing less and less from the Long Island contingent now that their inferiority complex otherwise known as the Islanders is back in business.

Is the quote on the bottom from The BlackAdder?

If so, I will let your comment slide. However, before talking junk, we shall see how everything unfolds with the new cap.

Jersey still sucks though.

Everybody knows that the the Northeast Forum IS the New Jersey thread. We let people from Long Island post once in a while, and even a few from PA, but 90 percent of the posts here are about NJ.

Sometimes we Marylanders sneak a post or two in as well. B)

We are gonna make out like bandits!

Lamoriello was one of the architects of the new CBA.

We have new arena to put asses in so you know we have to make good moves.

The team thats really screwed is the Rangers. They have the highest payroll and no idea whats in the new CBA. One day soon a 600 page document is gonna arrive on the Garden's doorstep and they are gonna be scratchin their heads.

The Isles need a new stadium badly. Other than that they will be fine. In fact they will be a force in the next few years I think.

Im just glad there will be hockey next winter. THANK GOD!

Im so sick of falling asleep to the Giants every Sunday.

Go Devils! :lol::lol:

I believe I've tried to register at NNJC 3 times. I do get the screen that says a confirmation email will be sent. I never get the email so once 24 hours passes I can try again. Not sure what I could be doing wrong. Yes it's the right email and yes I've doublechecked the random number to be typed in. Any ideas? I've been known to totally mess up in the past. :o

Anyone else ever tried King Pellinore's Wheretogo?Vertigo! cache without rapelling gear? White Whiskey and I got idiotic stupid today and bagged it without the ropes.

I think most people hit this without ropes.

The first time I was there, the thought didn't even cross my mind.

My friend and I explored around down there for over an hour. Once you get past the initial shock, it's easy.

But that doesn't carry over, when I was there with the crew to sign the replacement log several months later, I didn't want anything to do with "making the climb".

Well, I was just trying and hoping to base this on the rather successful "San Diego Thread" that I used to follow. Yes...we beat on each other too, but there's always relevant topics in there. Plus it's cool to have a historical repository of info instead of trying to find disregarded thread after thread.

Just may take a little while to catch on, hopefully.

Go to 40.56.016N 074.15.354W, (which just happens to be a geocache starting point) or thereabouts if you would like to take in a Fireworks Display tonight. Some people like Fireworks and this is a free show from that vantage point. Packanack Lake Wayne NJ has its annual Family Day today, fireworks are usually not too too bad. 9 PM, I plan to watch from canoe or kayak in the middle of the lake.

My guess would be that 90% of the finders did it without any safety gear. I did consider it important that someone was there when I did it, though, since I wouldn't have wanted my demise to have gone unnoticed.

All:

If you have a problem registering, it's likely your spam filtering (on your machine or your ISP/mail provider) that's preventing the mail from getting to you. There's no human (other then yourself) involved in the registration.

I know one individual that couldn't receive the mail after multiple attempts was on Verizon DSL. Their spam filtering must be a bit too aggressive and was preventing the process from completing.

If you want, I can add you directly without the confirmatin process. Send me a private email at david@levinecentral.com

Just remember ToTo, you're not in San Diego any more. :)

I actually heard the official warning from the PodCachers podcast about you :) .

Welcome to our congested little state with a very high density of Geocaches.

As far as keeping it together, I get frustrated after reading 5 pages trying to find something, and would prefer specific topics that actually stayed on topic.

I would recommend joining both NNJC.org and sjgeocaching.org. Each represents the uniqueness of caching in each side of the state, but the one thing they have in common, is that they're all really good people.

Which side of the Mason/Dixon line are you on? :)

Oh, one other thing since you're new to these parts. Watch out for Ticks at this time of the year.

Well, if it's all the same, I'll just keep posting here.

And last time I checked, there was no Mason/Dixon line in NJ.

North. South. It doesn't matter to me. The schism between North and South Jersey reminds me of something I was told in a interview once in had at a company in NC.

----------------------------------

"So where y'all from?"

"Umm...Arizona."

"Is that up north?"

"Uh. No."

"Well...you sound kinda yankee like."

"No. I'm from Arizona. You know out west."

"Well...shoot. You're not a suth'ner. You ain't a yankee....Shoot! You ain't nuthin' then."

"Uh. OK."

"Who's yer team?"

"Excuse me?"

"Ya know your basketball team. Duke, State or NC?"

"Uh...I don't really know. I'm a Pac-10 fan. Cal's my team I guess. I really don't care about ACC hoops."

(silence)

"Well....you gotta pick a team!"

"Uh. OK. Wake."

(stunned silence from the interviewer)

"Alright...but you'll be the only one around here rootin' for them then."

-------------------------------

North Jersey...south Jersey. Who cares? It's all Jersey to me.

In the words of Rodney King....

"Can't we all just get along?"

Thanks to all of you who've given me a warm welcome so far. You have some very interesting hides so far.

On a more serious note - Welcome to our weird and wonderful state!

As mentioned, both the northern and southern portions of the state have their own active and successful orgs with forums and some cross membership betwixt the two. (Which is probably a very good thing - because if all the northern and southern yakkers converged on this forum at the same time we'd exceed bandwith and crash the server!) (We'd probably annoy all the LIers to death as well with all the server timeouts - maybe not such a bad thing? <j/k>)

I am sure all of the regulars and lurkers (read: So. NJ cachers) will keep an eye on this thread too. We can't help ourselves. Although, I must agree with Mr. Resolution - I also prefer having separate topix instead of wading through 20 pages to find 2 sentences of useful information.

Thanks for actively taking part and getting a NJ thread started. Maybe we'll meet ya out on on an old piney trail heading to some Weird NJ site sometime. Just watch out for the towering 6'2" 300+lb, long haired (long live the mullet!), bearded, tattooed, 2-toothed, 3-eyed grouch off Quaker Bridge Road - she's my sister in law!!

No one needs to pick teams. North and South Jersey get along fine. It is just we rarely mingle. Now if you want to bring up a conversation about the elevation-challenged LIers! :anibad::(

Friggin LIers! :)

Agreed - we've always gotten along well with our Northern neighbors (and mightily enjoyed our part in LIs distress during Capture the Flag). Please don't get the impression that we don't get along! The culture and terrain between the North and South are so different that it was natural to have separate groups. We do have members belonging to both orgs and I personally believe that trend will continue to grow.

Now that No. NJ has formed, there will be more organized opportunities to mix and mingle. Speaking of which, SJGers are having: a Philly geocache walk - starting at the Art Museum - on Aug. 28th. We will be escorting a hiking group around and converting them into cachers. You can send a PM to Brianslost through this website for more details.

We are also having a (much smaller than G.O.N.E.) camp out Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The cache page can be found here. Any and all are welcome to camp for the weekend or come Saturday for lunch and caching.

I would guess so, (they seem to have a great deal of army surplus items), but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call if it's a long trip for you.

From outside NJ, their phone number is

800-486-7872,

and from in NJ, it's 609-585-5450.

They are located at 691 Rte 130 in Robbinsville, NJ

Brian, the Mason-Dixon Line never ran through New Jersey. If it were extended, it would have, but it never did. It solely defines the borders of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia (formerly part of Virginia). And I'm actually quite proud of myself for having logged a Mason-Dixon marker! Y'all Stop Fightin Now, Ya Hear?(Mason~Dixon Line). (Dolphin sprains fin, trying to pat self on back...)

She-ut! In the winter we camp in the desert & the summer we party at the beach. How's that for terrain? ( Hey, we ain't stoopid, we usually stay away from the desert in the summer!)

Ticks? We got em, along with mosquitos & rattlers. You got rattlers? Gotta watch where you stick your hand, even in the urban areas. Then there's the horses out at Sandy Creek ranch. They got some mighty big feet!

You folks talk about your cultures? How brazen! We try to keep that quiet. The only ones we talk to about it is our docs. :(:(

If there is a N and a S, what do the people in the middle do?

Ya'all just need to get together & iron out your differences. :(

JEEP THIEF ALERT!

Congratulations out to our local jeep thief/sock puppet Zuma on bagging two YJTB's in caches near Edison, NJ yesterday. He/she/they noted in the log the removal of the jeeps, but didn't remove them on the page.

Another curious fact...Zuma hasn't logged on in over two years and is an unregistered user. How then could they know about the jeeps???

Magic?

Prison furlough?

Or just a sock puppet for a regular?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Frye?

This is why I only put jeeps in puzzles or obscenely difficult to reach caches.

--TT--

What are you so worried about the jeeps for? Are they some personal TB of yours?

No, it's just a shame that they have become rare items to find. So rare that people feel the need to go out and take them and not log them on the site and be accountable for them. That's being a thief, and I just am calling attention to it.

There is/was a problem just like this in San Diego and Southern Arizona. It got to be so bad that the local cachers out there made a pact to out jeeps (white and yellow) into ONLY difficult puzzle caches or obscenely difficult to reach caches like those say.....requiring a 7 hr RT hike requiring 4000-7000 ft of elevation gain.

See

Newman Peak

Buster Springs

Another Puzzle?

I placed one personally in Newman Peak outside Eloy, AZ back last December. It's still there. I placed a white one in Another Puzzle? three weeks ago in Tucson, with the caveat that any of the previous finders were welcome to log and leave it for the next finder of that puzzle as their prize. So far it's worked out well.

It's just sad that there is someone who feels the need to steal them and make the remaining ones even less likely to be re-released into the wild to be poached.

Well....someone named "Zuma" noted in the logbook in those caches that they took the jeeps.

According to Zuma's profile, they last logged on GC.com since November 10,2002.

So....

1) How do they know about caches that weren't created until 2004?

2) How do they know about Jeep TBs since that programonly cam about in 2004?

Sounds awfully suspicious and like somebody's just snagged the jeeps under the guise of Zuma and won't fess up to having them.

So...I call it like I see it. And I call it a jeep thief.

see http://jeep.geocaching.com/ for more information on the Jeep Travel Bugs, and once you got the main idea down, go to http://jeep.geocaching.com/contest/ to see how to enter the contest.

Good luck with this thread TT, and I'll be sure to have some new puzzles for you to solve when you come back and visit San Diego!
