Bullsfan80586
I have a Garmin GPS V which I love. It works very well, but I know there is new firmware out there for the unit Does anyone know what happens when you upgrade the firmware? I don't want to screw anything up by changing the firmware. +S&G.Davison
I have completed numerous FW UGs on Numerous V's ... all painless.. It does not delete Wapoints or you stored maps ... All it does is add new functionality, fix bugs and like all Software introduce new unknown bugs I say run with latest version which is 2.5 from here Quote Link to comment
+RB_Nielsen
I also run the latest firmware from Garmin - but I have also saved the last several (4-5) firmware update files just in case I decide to go back a firmware release or two. This practice of saving past firmware releases helps should a buggy version of the firmware ever be released, and of course this makes it possible to go back to the previous release. Given that kind of flexibility, upgrading to the latest release is fairly risk free. I hope this helps Quote Link to comment
peter
...I have also saved the last several (4-5) firmware update files just in case I decide to go back a firmware release or two. For those who didn't have such foresight there's an archive of Garmin firmware releases at: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/agree.html Quote Link to comment
+S&G.Davison
Also FWIW I always "hack" the latest GPS V firmware to change the start up warning screen to be a owners details screen.. Details Here This web site also has an old Firmware library here Edited July 15, 2005 by S&G.Davison Quote Link to comment
+elsinga
And if you didn't save previous versions... the GPS V FAQ & HowTo pages also have aGPS V Firmware Archive. URL see .sig. Quote Link to comment
+Hemlock
It does not delete Wapoints or you stored maps ... I just wanted to mention this only applies when upgrading the firmware. A couple times when I had to downgrade to an older version of the firmware (due to bugs, etc.) it wiped out all my waypoints and tracklogs. To be on the safe side, you should always backup your data to a file on your PC. Quote Link to comment
+Cache Viking
I have kept my V upto date without any problems. Quote Link to comment
+elsinga
And 2.50 (the latest) is a very, very stable version. Quote Link to comment
+Scooter38401
If I am understanding Garmin's web site; the last firmware upgrade for the V ( version 2.5) was made in 2003. Is that correct? Edited July 19, 2005 by Scooter38401 Quote Link to comment
