+avroair Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I was considering having 200 limited edition GONE Caching! (GONE stands for Geocachers of the North East) geocoins minted from the same people who did my own personal coins. The coins are smaller (1") than regular coins and have a vintage finish. They would not be trackable. And would probably run $6.00 at the event and $8.00 for the first 100 orders, (just a price I have in my head and by no means set!) Do you think this is a good or bad idea, and why?
+Shop99er Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Remember how popular the Geowoodstock III coins were? 'Sides, I would want 2, if you made them.
+KC0GRN Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 If I could get a couple, I'd buy them. I'm afraid I'm a bit far away to attend the event though.
+WYlostinMA Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I wouldn't be about to attend the event, but I would take a couple...
+Nurse Dave Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Guess it depends what you want them for. There has been talk with other coins just limiting them to a certain number or certain people to make them more "rare". Instead of that, it can make them just impossible for people to get just one. If you want them just to commemorate the event and the people that actually went, I'd limit it just to that instead of a frenzy of people that order first.
+robert Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Remember how popular the Geowoodstock III coins were? 'Sides, I would want 2, if you made them. Realize that the GWIII coins are trackable and these aren't. That being said, I know the coins will be sweet, since both of the likely designers of the coins do top-notch work. I plan to attend the event and will definitely buy a couple.
+AtlantaGal Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Wouldn't be able to attend, but would buy a coin. Would the $8 include shipping?
+darth_maul_3 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I wouldn't be about to attend the event, but I would take a couple from this coins

Make two different color metals but keep the same design. For example, a silver colored coin for those who actually attend the even and a bronze colored coin for those who didn't. That why you can lower the per coin cost and still have something special for those that attended. Also, making them trackable (there are a number of websites that can do this for you) will increase the number of people interested in the coins.

Great suggestion on the varied coins... they would however, never be trackable since I sincerely doubt anyone would place them in caches. The limit number would be 200 either way since I can't afford to order more than that. $8.00 would be before shipping, but since they are small shipping would probably run $0.50 - $075 even for 2. Thanks for the input.
+XRN95 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 If available to everyone I would definately get a couple!
+Ramsey LtD Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 (edited) I'd buy a few, and I'm Klizich would do the same. I plan to attend (& I'll ask Klizich whether he's interested). BTW, I like the adea of two different metals (or another identifier) to differentiate those who attended from those who merely bought one. Edited July 13, 2005 by Ramsey LtD
+hammerjane Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to attend. If they are made, I would like 2.
+Night_Hawk Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I won't be able to attend but I'd like to be added to the list for 2 coins.
+bluegillfisherman Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I would be interested in obtaining 3-4. Thanks, bgf
+xfalcon1 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 why go smaller? i like the 1.5 size coins best but might get some
+robert Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 why go smaller? i like the 1.5 size coins bestbut might get some yes the full size coins are definitely nice but avro's own personal coin is a smaller variety and quite cool.
+avroair Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 Smaller --- so they fit in micros! The 1.5 inch is standard --- but why be standard?
+xfalcon1 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 (edited) Hey avroair send me a freebe of your personal coin and i'll shut up about the size JK, i do hope to trade for one someday though still up for some of these coins if they get made Edited August 3, 2005 by xfalcon1
+Ladycacher Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Hey avroair send me a freebe of your personal coin and i'll shut up about the size JK, i do hope to trade for one someday though still up for some of these coins if they get made I own of his coins and they are very neat! You think "oh how small" until you own one. It is one of the most talked about when people come over and get that rare glimps of my coin collection. (edit for spelling) P.S. I have one to trade if interested.
+Terrible Ts Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 We are interested in 3 if you make them. Thanks Terrible Ts
+maggieszoo Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I doubt if I could make it to the event, but I would take 2 coins if you offer them to the rest of us! Oh, and I like the idea of different coins for attendees and non-attendees.
+geolands Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I can't attend either (bad weekend), but I would order 2 if available "outsiders" of the event.
+Stuck on WGS84 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Is the coin still a serious consideration? I would like to make the event, but there are many strings pulling me in other directions on this holiday weekend. If the coin is a no-go the event may have to drop in the priorities. The decision event horizon is upon me.
SCP-173 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 If these get made I'll give Junglehair some money and ask her to buy me one. Does that mean I can get the "attended event" color?
+xfalcon1 Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 hey avroair is this coin going to production?
+Bear Paughs Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Any news on these coins? Will they be available for sale to people who can't attend? (I previously posted my request for a few of these.)
SCP-173 Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Looks like they'll only be availible at the event. Good thing Avroair's such a cool guy and I know someone who's going.
+Blue iis Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 (edited) I'd be very interested in a couple and would be happy to pay extra for someones help. PLEASE. Edited August 16, 2005 by Blue iis
+Shop99er Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 So, what's the story here? Are these only going to be available to the folks that attend the event? Or can the rest of us order them?
+avroair Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 I have had two G.O.N.E. coins minted (from my own pocket): 200 bronze coins available at the event and to people who are not attending --- $7.00 each 100 brass coins exclusive to event attendees --- $5.00 each If there is enough interest I may have more of the bronze coins made up --- I haven't opened up the sales to individuals yet since my paypal charges me fees. I will try to update this page to let people know any further details about availability (i am running the event and producing the NJ geocoin too!)
+Bear Paughs Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 That's awesome news! I was afraid I'd be out of luck because we can't attend. Thanks for the update!
+CT Trampers Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 We'd love to buy a few!! Looking forward to seeing you all at the event!
