I could haul the duck boat up and launch it at Bowman's Bay and run around the corner to the ladder area and shuttle people to No Deceipt Kayakers' Cache. Can haul 3 at a time. Could also toss a couple canoes in the mix.

The cache description says it's best at a +3 tide but I've found very few places I can't beach that rig. :P Looking at Terraserver and my charts, it shouldn't be an issue.

Or does this qualify as trying to do too much in a limited time?

If you want an "A" ticket ride. A trip in a small boat through Deception Pass at full flood will stand your hair on end. :P NO, NO, I'm not offering. Been there, Done that, Almost lost the T-shirt.

That would Rock, you bring some sort of floating device and I'm in. There is also another nearby Island that has some fun looking caches as well, I still have no clue how to link things in these forums. But I'm in for a water trip none the less.

Could also schedule a preliminary stop in Bellevue to gather together Eastsiders on the way up to a rendezvous point north of the I-5/405 merge.

I think that would be a good idea. Would the SE 8th Park and Ride at 7:00 AM work with morning traffic?

Traffic is awful through there! I'm pretty sure it would take more than a half hour to go the distance between the two PnRs. I avoid that area during the morning commute so somebody else will have a better idea about how much time it is likely to take.

How do you avoid SE 8th if you come up 405? Says the one closest to that P&R :P

Exactly, says the other one who lives near there. But Jester's right - we can meet there and carpool north in the HOV lane, so only getting to the PnR is a problem. The HOV lane is usually pretty fast.

Okay, Allanon is out (I wasn't sure if TL had talked you back in or not), so here is the group:

Moun10Bike

CENT5

lucyandrickie

Defender1

reino

Lolita

The Jester

Right Wing Wacko

OldBaldEagle

Prying Pandora

EraSeek

hydensek

LittleBlue

MarcusArelius

14 should be a reasonable size.

CENT5, I love the idea of adding in the No Deceipt Kayakers' Cache! We should have plenty of time; besides, I expect the author and photographer to drive on their own so that they can bail out at anytime (while we cachers fill the day with caching! :P).

So, the plan so far is to rendezvous at the Lynnwood Park and Ride off Exit 183 (N47 51.059 W122 15.523.) at 7:30 AM. I will plan on meeting people there, as Bellevue is a little out of my way coming from my house. All that is left to settle is a firm decision opn where and when to meet for the Eastsider's grouping.

I think the suggested 7:00 am at the S 8th PnR off 405 [exit 12] is fine. Anyone besides me, MarcusArelius, and Jester planning to meet there?

Oh - and Lolita said in an earlier post that she wasn't coming, so you're down to unlucky 13. :P

I can meet there too, and drive or ride.

Ditto

Hey do we have a list of the caches. I would like to do ebey bluffs for 1200 if it is on the list

I am thinking I'd like to come along for this. In fact before I saw this thread I was going to head up there to those very caches this weekend to get #1500. (I can get it somewhere else tomorrow). The Lynnwood P&R would definitely work out better for me, a Snohomish County resident, but I'm flexible. This would put the count back to 14 instead of unlucky 13.

I plan on leaving Burien at 6 AM with the boat and 2 canoes. I have 10 total PFD's (4 of which are the cheesy orange ones.) The minus tide in Bowman Bay starts at 6:30 AM dropping to a minus 2.61 at 8:55 AM. The tide doesn't hit the 0 ft mark rising until 11:30. I am not sure how far out the ramps go at Bowman Bay and this might pose a problem launching the boat. The canoes are not a problem. The paddle from the launch point to the island is a bit over a mile I figure. (15-20 minute paddle.) The canoes are 16' and 17' and generally can carry 2-3 each. (I can't carry all 3 canoes so am leaving the 15' at home.) If the ramp is inaccessable due to low tide I can park the rig at the ramp and hop in someone elses vehicle and we can make the decision later as to whether or not we want to give the island a shot later in the day when the tide is more favorable. I guess I would rather have the duck boat along to escort the canoes for safety reasons. I don't know the groups familiarity with canoes other than myself, EraSeek and perhaps LB. You will want to pack some wading shoes I'm sure.

I am unfamiliar with the P&R you all are speaking about. I am coming N bound I-5 and since I'm towing the boat etc. I don't care to be maneuvering it around unfamiliar places. I plan on blowing stright through to the wayside rest at MP 207 (I Hate I-5 Northbound) Prying Pandora has my cell# and I have hers. She can give me a call and we can hook up as ya'll go by.

I'm happy to steer a canoe for our paddle. One question- what time do people envision gettting back to the P&R- I'm trying to plan an evening BD party for our youngest.

And thanks for thinking of the meds Cent5! B)

EDIT to say said BD party is going to take place Mon evening after all- my brother had his work schedule wrong. But I should still get an idea of the Tues schedule.

I take it that means you won't be making the Pizza night?

I have a bag 'o stuff for you, one thing of which I thought you might like before Tuesday. Any chance you can swing by work tomorrow?

If the rest of the group is up for caching until we drop, then so am I! B)

Who's driving and who's riding? More specifically, am I driving or riding? Happy to go either way, but I want to show up in Bellevue with a full tank of gas if I'm driving.

I'll be glad to drive the 4 of us, if y'all chip in for gas. I just visited the pump tonight. Yikes, $2.45 even at Arco.

I don't know about caching till we drop, I have to work Wednesday, but no problem getting back to the PnR at darkness [9 pm or so].

Perhaps you could suggest a list of caches for the after-caching? I haven't had time to take a look, but am game for whatever's on the way back!

Craig, Mark...what are your druthers?

All Cache till whenever Cent5 want's to, I'm meeting him at his casa, so I will be rolling with him.

I'm looking at rolling back southbound between 3-5PM. It will be a 2 hr run and it will take me a couple hours to unload the canoes and flush the boat motor etc. (Interspersed with a couple beers no doubt.) B) That will be pushing 10PM and I have a very busy day planned WED. I also haven't seen my son for a week as he has been off in Idaho on a "Habitat for Humanity" project.

Cathy, do you want to pool up to the P&R so we can use the HOV up there?

OK, I'll play musical chairs, er, cars. It looks like I'll have to drive a whole 3 miles if we start at your house, Jester! What time do you want to leave? B)

I would prefer to drive as I'll have the laptop with - loaded with maps and caches and what all. B)

Sounds good to me. Although how can you use the laptop if you're driving? Seems like it would make better sense for you to be navigator. But, whatever....and Cathy won't have to change cars. B)

Cathy- can I ride with you when we meet up at the Lynnwood P&R?

I am good for caching til whenever- my (wonderfully nice!) husband is taking the day off tomorrow to help with the deck building in my absence. Yippee- a reprieve!

Allanon- I'd love to be able to swing by your work- but I'm stuck here working on the deck as much as possible- my MIL and FIL leave next weekend and we have to finish by then- we have a lot yet to do! Could you swing by here after work maybe? But if not- no big deal...

Looking forward to it you guys! You don't know how much...

How late do you guys stay up? Can I swing by on the way home from Pizza?

OR, if Cathy makes it tonight, I can just give it to her and she can get it to you tomorrow...

One or the other...

Okay, everything is in place. I heard back from Jamie and s/he is very excited about the plans, including CENT5's boating expedition!

Jamie and the photographer, Brian, will be meeting us at the 7:30 Park and Ride rendezvous. They will be driving separately so that they can head back whenever they need to. That means the rest of us can cache all day if we want to!

See everyone tomorrow!

How about 6:30 my place?

I've built a console in the front to hold the laptop, I got pretty good with it on our vacation, though the shotgoun seat has to do the real detail looking. We could meet you at the 112th P&R if that's better for you (about 6:45ish).

I would like to ride this time. Once I figure out who's driving. It sounds like Jester is. Are you still planning on stopping at one of the Bellevue P&R lots?

Yeah, we'll be at the SE 8th P&R at about 7, see you there.

All: If you have 12v power cords for your GPSr's I'll have plugins available.

They stuck with us for THE TIDE DOESN'T MATTER, SCARY LADDER, The Deception Island kayak cache, and MART WALL micro, and then bailed. They experienced some very good caches and ask lots of questions, took a bunch of photos, seemed nice enough. (but we should have put on our tinfoil hats to welcome them  )

It was a marvelous day start to finish.

Defender1 came by at 6AM and we headed N. Stopped at I Hate I-5 Northbound and found we were an hour ahead of the group.

Headed N to Bowman Bay and having a head start we went after Geology Geocache #5: The Glacial Grind. Across the beach? and oh what an ankle breaker that turned out to be.

Prying Pandora called as we were climbing off the beach and we hoofed it for the cache. In danger of a DNF Defender1 nabbed the cache and we headed up the road hopeing for a lift. Little did we know how far off track we were. The Jester and Prying Pandora came to our rescue and we were soon joined with the main group. Reino promptly presents me with a 1952 nickle in honor of my B'day the day before. (More on this later.)

Off we traipsed at a very low tide across the beach toward our 1st objective:Light House Point

With a slight detour the group stopped by: The Tide Doesn't Matter Then off we went.

The descent down the hill to the base of "Scary Ladder" commenced about a millisecond after we arrived. Positively looked like ants swarming as we made our decent.

I'm not sure who was 1st up the ladder. (MA perhaps) Reino was right in front of me and shot up the ladder like a fireman. Following reino I found the ladder to be quite secure and popped over the top in short order.

Standing at the top of the ladder, the photographer and author (I apologize, I never got your names.) accompanying us were positively INSANE. Shooting photo's down the ladder whilst perched precariously to the side.

Off we went for the cache which was shortly in hand after a brisk hike. Quite the gaggle we had there. People separating somewhat to take in the absolutely stunning views.

EraSeek and I were eyeballing the currents for our upcoming assault on No Deceipt Kayakers' Cache (Quite impressive from up there.)

After some time to soak in the views it was back to the "Scary Ladder". This was a kick. I really think they ought to install a firepole for the more adventurous types. While it certainly is more difficult to make the turn at the top than just climbing up the ladder, the ladder once again proved quite secure.

The line of cachers decending the ladder and climbing the opposite hill was quite impressive till all stood safely on the other side save 1.

M10B stood alone across the yawning abyss. Having safely sheparded this flock of neophytes along the way and making certain no one had been left behind, he adroitly hopped on the ladder, danced his way to the bottom and quickly joined the group on the far side to the cheers of all.

Off we went to gird for the assault on No Deceipt Kayakers' Cache

Though the tide was still a bit low we managed to get the assault boat in the water and the 1st 3 explorers onboard. Marcus Arelius had offered to make some runs so I could do the cache and was in the 1st wave.

A brief reconoiter showed the landing spot to be as put forth in the cache page. The South, West and North sides of the rock totally inpenetrable.

After 4 runs all were safely delivered to the island and MA was waiting with the 1st group for a return run. Tried as hard as we could to get RWW up the 1st pitch with his broken arm we failed to do so. Sorry RWW, when it heals I'll be happy to take you back.

I should have read the logs. The bushes are nasty and the trail, positively nefarious. Sliced and diced, off to the cache we went.

Reino and I looked around the N side of the island looking for a place we could get RWW up to the cache to no avail.

I was last to sign the log and rehid the cache. M10B was off in the bushes in search of a BM. Reino and I headed off to join them but I backed out as my legs were cut to ribbons. BIG mistake.

I headed off to make sure no one was left on the island and discovered a "trail" across the top. BIG mistake #2. I got sliced, diced, and positively Cuissnarted by the brush before I made my way down to the main path. If you could call it that.

Ran into Lucy and the author in the brush and we eventually found the drop to the landing area. The tide was significantly higher and it was a challenge to get to the drop zone without getting wet. MA was holding offshore and came in to pick them up.

The group that was doing the BM showed up shortly after that and Cathy managed to keep her feet dry despite what appeared to be an "Oh man your gonna die on this face plant." move between the swells. (No face plant, just an adroit move.) She did manage to keep her feet dry too.

With a sizeable group in the cove we were skipping stones like kids and attempted to knock MA off course on his approach to the pick-up point. LB, Lucy and the author headed out with MA. Cathy, reino, and I stayed behind in the cove against the encroaching tide and swells. Chucking rocks at fungi (nother story) and having a most enjoyable time until MA came to drag us back to civilization.

Loaded the boat with some able assistance and had a vote. Quiznose or Subway. Quiznose won in a landslide and off to Oak Harbor we went.

Positively famished at this point, we decended on Quiznose. I'm sure the employee's wondered what the hell just hit them at 2 PM on a TUESDAY!!!!

Then I walk out of the bathroom at Quiznose and reino presents me with a B'Day cake decorated like a nickel and a present. ( I suspect GeekGirl may have had a hand in this.) Accompanied by a rousing chorus of "Happy B'Day" from all, I am just floored. I open his gift and find a Nickel collection starting at 1952 to 2005. ALL 53 OF THEM!!!!! FLOORED absolutely knocked back on my butt. THANK-YOU so much for for the memorable 53rd.

Out of Quiznose I had to change out of my soaking shoes and while the group descended on a closeby micro I got out of my soaking water shoes.

We traipsed around Oak Harbor popping caches wherever we went. EraSeek reached his 1k at It's All for the Kids and southbound we went.

I was following M10B as best i could with the boat in trail. My autorouting had me going in different direction but Defender1 and I trailed along faithfully.

Defender1 had been telling me all day about a cache by EraSeek he really wanted to go to . The Path of the Watchers

We followed M10B and EraSeek to the parking spot but had to go 2 miles down the road to turn the boat trailer around.

A brisk walk with the group to "The Door" exposed a most ingenious route. "How the hell do you find these places EraSeek?" crossed many a mind I am sure.

A capstone cache for the day for Defender1 and I to be sure and a fitting ending of the day for sure.

While Defender1 and I so much wanted to end the day at Ebey Bluffs it was not to be. The clock was ticking for both of us and we had to part ways with the group.

A simply fabulous day that few would understand save those that were there.

Thank-You M10B for setting this up and cudo's to all that participated. This will ring long in my memory as a high point.

On a down side I failed to get ANY pix of the day as I seemed so busy all the time to find the camera. Any pix would be appreciated.
