Cache Trip Casualties

I prolly shouldn't post this as it will inevitably jinx us, but it occured to me that so far this summer we have had no incidents in vehicle damage while out caching!

Last summer was not so fortunate. We had both of our vehicles in the shop twice last summer and went almost 6 months without having both vehicles in running condition for 3 days straight. The last two instances happened from caching trips. First the radiator in our 4x4 exploded while caching in Douglas, resulting in an expensive tow home that night. Then the day after it was repaired we took the van down to Grand Junction, CO for a trip of caching and visiting friends over Labor Day weekend. On the way down we hit a deer and limped it along to GJ and back home. However, that didn't stop us from scoring a few caches in Colorado that weekend. ;)

Anyone else want to share their own vehicle casualty stories while on the caching trails?

At the Bremerton Cache Machine my tire got screwed as well. Come to think of it Allanon was along on that trip however he wasn't a passenger in the CRV on that day. I'm thinking Evil Druid. B) He was part of my pit crew to do the tire change. Thanks again Allanon.

I was out geocaching down by Eagle Creek Trailhead in Oregon and was catching a little backpacking with it and my car got broken into. The person that broke in took my lock to my car with them. It did almost $2000 dollars worth of damage.

Be very wary when parking down in that area. There has been a major amount of break ins at Eagle Creek Trainhead and Multnomah Falls.

Ripped a tire in my Bronco from the tread to the rim on a rock. It was 105 out when I had to change it in the dirt with my stock jack. I've been pressing to get a handiman ever since. We put a bolt through the tire on our van. My Corolla has seen more off road action than about any car I've got including the 4x4 and it's come out ok though I scrape the bottom a lot.

The Bronco also blew 4 quarts of oil out on the way back home on a different cache trip. That repair was 600 bucks. I was in the process of putting a new seat in my project truck when I discovered caching. However I spent the money on my GPS instead bought the Bronco and let the project rust. It's up for sale now I'll never get back to it.
