Should Numbers Dictate This Sport?

This is Matt, formerly CreekFalls90, I changed the cache and is now a painted coffee can to its background so now not as blatant to the eye, but the coordinates will get you there. Good luck!

Took the rest of the team, found it without much problems.

B) actually "morpar" i'm in a team now....imagine that...i mean my new screen name is team, but hey!, it would only take a brain to deduce that..(im sorry, i hate this constant shots at me) the other members, if u can indeed read, found it, i tagged along behind, because i infact changed it a week after it came out. Yellow or not, these people who find it have trouble it's not sitting in plain daylight. of course you would know since you've been there. Maybe you need to check your facts before you use them. (cough cough)

I saw that, and I stand by my opinion that in 4yrs of caching MOST of your peers (Guys like Questmaster) would consider claiming a find on a cache you hid, no matter if it was a different team member, would be considered extremely lame. Many would label you a cheater. But then, since the numbers don't matter, why log a find at all? Why not a note?

Ok, I don't like stats, my team does, they think that it's all in good fun, and it'll go along with the name. I don't care what you think, because i think youre just a s much ofa fraud. i mean look at the people leaving thesse comments, same people whol hide 74 micros in a stop sign.

CreekFalls, or Team Alpha Omega, my suggestion is that you should go out and find 25 to 30 more different types of caches then come back and discuss this further.

And, may I ask, how would that even change the opinion? Is it not true that if you find 800 you can find 900? No matter how many I have found, would it not be true that if you can think and have a GPS and have the ability to get to the geocache, you can find geocaches. Tonite has just proved to me that peopel are just as closed minded as I could ever imagine. Just because you've found 200, does that mean your any better of a geocacher than me? I'm all for team geocaching. Maybe like a race or soemthing, to prove who is the best geocachers, and whether numbers TRULY matter in this game of outdoors skill that has no place for micros in wal*mart parking lot.

Actually, I found my first seven caches without a GPS unit.

The point is, according to your forum title, that it is not about the numbers. It is about the level of interest one wants to put into this activity or the physical capability of the cacher and what s/he can accomplish.

i found the creek falls without a gps and i found it without even using the roads he gave me and by myself, and im 14......

so dont be fool of urself...thats my job

Real geocachers don't do anything less than a 6/6.

I guess then that I have to repeat myself...I am not a REAL cacher since due to physical limitations at the time I can only do 1/1?

Actually, I said that the cache's like 1/1's are only good if they have a scenic value, good camping spot, fishing spot, picnic area, etc.. if you read behind you will find that i did say that but retracted it.....

lets get back on topic!!!!!

why micros?

I feel like you guys exploit everytihng I say, which makes me watch every ingle word I type in here so that it's not offensive. So, why do you doubt my hating of statistical value, when you yourself like statistics? I don't even need this nonsense. "well, that explains it" dadadadada

get high on urself by stupid comebacks but we're getting no where with wiping out micros!!!!

there are bad! they're ruining caching as it is today! if i remember this caching was started with a non-micro on a hike!

regardless! how can u change the sport?! variety is bad, virtual, webcam, all of these are bad.

keep it to traditional, multi caching, and letterboxing and there will never be another geocaching problem and the sport will be more competitive if we made it impossible to do more than 1 or 2 geocaches a day no 91 in 13 hours!!!

No, variety is good. And, why would I want to change the sport? I like it the way it is. If you don't like it the way it is, there are other hunting-type sites for you to join.

someone called me that b4...what is a trolll?...dont worry...i dont care what u say cuz basically everyone has taken a shot so far today

Not everyone. A few weeks ago when I was subbing, the school hosted a specialist for assembly to teach people how to handle themselves when attacked. The number one thing to learn: just be quiet. don't argue, don't retaliate, just walk away. It would be so easy for you to do that. if you would. Every last thing you say becomes fuel. That's why people are using the word "troll." B)

Well, since you have only been caching 2-3 weeks, no wonder you don't remember the first cache very well. It was no hike. You could drive (if you were old enough) almost right up to it. It was a bucket, so it was easy to find. By your flawed logic, all caches SHOULD be a 1/1 then, like the original cache was.

As for geocaching being a "sport" and making it more competitive: those are words the people who care about numbers use. Geocaching is NOT competitive, and is NOT a sport. Sports have stats, and sports are competitive. Sports are all about the numbers.

are you even paying attention here?

caching was started by a guy who put a can of beans, in a 5-gallon bucket, in a field, by the side of the road. just for the heck of it.

a roadside park and grab.

it was not started by someone who had an urge to start the ultra hike.

Why all this angst about micros? We've been given several tools to filter caches according to personnel preference:

1. Use your ignore list

2. Run a pocket query and filter out micros

3. Run a pocket query and only include caches with more difficult terrain

4. Use someone's bookmarked list

So what's the problem?

Wait just one freaking minute.

You didn't sign the log for the cache you supposedly found ?

You logged a found on your own cache?

Like I tell my kids, "What's the matter didn't mommy and daddy give you enough attention when you were a baby?"

Ban him. (I'm slow but I'm not joking)

Ok, smartoff, listen I can't drive for one. Another thing, who cares, I can go 10 times farther than you can, or anyone here. I condition myself for these things. With the right gear almost anyone can go anywhere. Why do we not use the topic as argument rather than my character, and belittling things I do, you people are little footnotes on what I will be.

I Took the meow mix travel bug yesterday and put it back today at 7. I took pictures with me and my brother holding it for the tb site. I agree with Tony, yellow is a bit stand-out-ish. >>><<< You have to be blind to not see him in the woods with a neutral background. Keep working. Hide it better so we have a little bit of a challenge next time.

June 23 by CreekFalls90 (1 found)

The coordinates work better than mine. Thanks. I went up to retrieve the travel bug to show my brother who is a cat addict. Tonite around 3pm it'll be placed back up there so anyone planning on getting to this cat to New York can.

Thanks CF4L

Hmm I did the clicky thing...and these two logs popped out at me...so does CreekFalls have yet another SockPuppet? And just to be sure he can't claim that JJJ is his brother...here is another log from the same person...2 finds...same cache...and ran into CreekFalls

I actually met CreekHills90 relocating the cache to a little less "out in the open" spot to a more make you have to look spot. Great location, small n' easy hike. It's in a picture-esque canyon with a beautiful view. The hike's terrain is underated I think, and I really reccommend people to go and check this out. And his hint will help you if your looking for the cache. I'm gonna walk up sometime soon with another friend I'm going to introduce to GeoCaching.

So a troll...and a sock puppet...but he is right....he doesnt care about the # of finds, none of his puppets has very many

Several of the points you made here are entirely inaccurate...

...if i remember this caching was started with a non-micro on a hike!

First of all, caching was started with a bucket with some beans and other random trinkets on the side of a road, no major hike, in fact, I'm fairly confident it was a total park and grab. Probably pretty lame by your standards.

regardless! how can u change the sport?! variety is bad, virtual, webcam, all of these are bad.

Haven't you ever heard the saying "Change is Good" How can change and variety be bad... If you didn't change your underwear every day and have a little variety in your warddrobe, you'd start to smell, and you wouldn't have any friends. I'm assuming you have friends, so obviously you DO change. CHANGE IS GOOD.

keep it to traditional, multi caching, and letterboxing and there will never be another geocaching problem and the sport will be more competitive if we made it impossible to do more than 1 or 2 geocaches a day no 91 in 13 hours!!!

The idea isn't to be competitive, it's to have fun, in whatever way you can. Some people enjoy being competitive, that's why there are statistics and micros to give them higher stats. Some people like long hikes in remote areas, that's why people like you and I enjoy caches by my good buddy Quest Master.

I say play the game you like to do it, and don't worry about how everyone else is doing it.

And I don't see why you're complaining about micros ruining the sport. You live in an area that is mostly micro free.

In fact, I just looked at all the caches in your area, using your hide as a center point, within twenty miles (which is about 140 caches) there are only about FIVE micros. You, like myself are probably in high school, so I'm sure you can do the math and see that that is less than three percent.

Suck it up, go out, and have fun!

Bottom right, drop down menu, use the "Close this Topic" button.

And don't accuse people of taking potshots at you, when you use phrases like, "you people are little footnotes on what I will be."
