onlybme Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I have noticed several cachers have gotten a hold of a couple of these white jeeps(from events), so they figure they can keep one and just log it in and out of caches. My message is : just LET IT GO! LET IT GO!!!! Finding one in a cache brings good luck, but your luck will turn by holding on to one. Like the ring in Lord of the rings. They turn into the SMEAGOL and the jeep is their "precious". Once you have it, you never want to get rid of it. It sucks the life out of you and you end up broke and pennyless and without worth. I have a link to a popular cacher with 500+ finds who has 3 of these. Just sitting. I wont say who he is unless he keeps them for the duration. Its a shame but this contest bringsout the ugly in cachers. Theres more that Ive seen not moving. Are these really travel bugs? All Im seeing is that people bring them to events and others log the #s off of them. Do you really need a white jeep to be popular? Very few end up in caches. They should only have the prizes eligible for people whose jeeps have been logged by 100 cachers in 100 caches. That would keep them moving. Or a prize for the most hands changed. Or the #s get reposessed after sitting for 3 weeks LMAO LET IT GO BEFORE ITS TOO LATE !!! Remember this: If you cant let it go, then it doesnt belong to you - YOU BELONG TO IT !!! I know the jeeps dont belong to anyone in the 1st place, but this rule applies to all aspects of life If you cant let it go, then it doesnt belong to you - YOU BELONG TO IT !!! onlybme Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) WH you have 43 white jeeps logged, but that is OK since I see none are in your possession. But only 7 are in actual caches and 18 have 0 miles. <sighs> Edited July 5, 2005 by onlybme Quote
WH Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I was a WJTB distributor for western Massachusetts. I had to log a grab on all of them so I could drop them into my distribution event. I have yet to log one out of a cache. Quote
4wheelin_fool Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) LOL I was just in Worcester, Mass for the weekend and I only saw one white jeep in a cache after searching several pages. It was nowhere nearby of course. After I got back 2 more popped up I see. Edited July 5, 2005 by 4wheelin_fool Quote
+denali7 Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 let it go, onlybme, breathe... this is a huge problem that will not go away. let it gooooo... Quote
+ZillahBillies Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) I've noticed this odd pattern in other threads as well. Guess I'm not sure I get the point of hosting a "distribution event" significantly after the contest has already started. Kinda like buying a set of engraved "2005" champagne glasses in 2006... +StarBrand Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I didn't even receive the 25 Jeeps for my area until June 17th - First Chance for an Event was the 25th and only 2 cachers showed up. I have rolled up over 1100 miles on my Jeep getting these WJTBs put out in a wide geographic area. I still have 6 - that will get out in caches by the coming weekend. Sorry but I am doing my best. Kinda like buying a set of engraved "2005" champagne glasses in 2006... guess they were good glasses seriously, the local group didn't get their jeeps till June so there are a few jeeps that are still filtering out. I would imagine that there are other places like that. For whatever reason releasing all the jeeps at one coordinated time didn't happen. Quote
+Ambrosia Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 We have a huge area to distribute. Almost all of Eastern Washington. You're talking a lot of time and money (for gas) for volunteers, who have a regular job on top of all of that. And I don't see how this is like getting 2005 glasses in 2006. So you miss the month of June, sad, but you have July, August, etc. You're still in the running. Even if all the bugs were out in June, you still might not be able to snag one. Quote

Thanks for the explanation. That makes more sense. I didn't mean that I don't like the idea of a distribution event, I just didn't understand how come some folks are waiting till late summer to release them (as implied in some other threads on the subject). I just figured it kinda took the fun out of it...thus, the champagne glass anology. I'm the last one with room to complain since someone recently drop off one of the WJTBs in our first cache, giving us a chance to check it out. Guess we just got such a kick out of it, I felt sorry for those who haven't had a chance. My apologies to you distributors...didn't mean to pass judgement. I'm sure you're doing a great job and I probably wouldn't want to switch places with you in light of your obligation. You've got some big shoes to fill. Good luck! Our area didn't use an event to distribute jeeps, but I assume that some areas do that to help spread around the jeeps to a larger area. Didn't feel that you were passing judgement... Glad you got to see a jeep! They're cute little buggers! Quote
