EdDee
Hi, We are planning to move out of state soon. Is there protocol for adopting a cache? Any information is greatly appreciated. We hope to place a cache or two in our soon to be new home town. Thanks, EdDee Quote Link to comment
Joe Smith
First, you could email your local admin. Then check your local caching groups to see if anyone wants to adopt them. To find out who your approver is, check the very bottom of one of your caches to see who approved it. Clicking on that name will bring up the profile to send an email. From, the geocaching knowledge base In some rare situations, a cache is no longer able to be maintained by the owner. In these cases, Geocaching.com will transfer ownership of the cache listing to a geocacher that is willing to take on the responsibility of maintaining it. Every effort needs to be made to try and contact the owner before this happens. In a situation where the cache owner does not respond in an adequate amount of time (within 4 weeks, but your mileage may vary), contact your local cache reviewer with: The waypoint name for the cache (GCXXX), and any history you have in your attempts to contact the owner, or any history of the reason for adoption If you aren't sure who your local reviewer is please let me know where you live and I'll get you that information. +The Leprechauns
As it relates to consensual transfers, that FAQ entry is out of date and inaccurate. Quote Link to comment
Joe Smith
Okay, so just ignore it, and contact your local admin. Quote Link to comment
The Leprechauns
Volunteer cache reviewers are not involved in consensual adoptions. I took the OP as asking about a consensual adoption. I wish that the FAQ page could be clarified on this point. Quote Link to comment

robert
splicingdan is right, use http://www.geocaching.com/adopt You can put your caches up for adoption by having the page send an email to the person you'd like to take over your cache. They accept the invitation and the transfer is complete. They can then edit the page, get owner emails, etc. Edited July 2, 2005 by robert Quote Link to comment
