Freightdawg Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 (edited) I'm interested in getting a GPSr with built-in mag compass. But the ones (Garmin) I've looked at so far have me choking on the price. How cheap can I go and still be happy with the rest of the unit? TIA Jeff aka Freightdawg Edited June 28, 2005 by Freightdawg Quote
+embra Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Don't know if this is the cheapest, but I see Meridian Platinum for $259 at Compuplus. Quote
Freightdawg Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 I'm going to add a PS Anyone using a Garmin Geko 301? Comments? Thanks. Quote
ImpalaBob Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 301 uses a joystick button which I am not real found of. I am not really a fan of built in compasses and really like having a good magnetic compass with me like my Brunton or Silva. Orienteering is still a big part of this game here in heavy tree cover areas. Good luck with your search! ImpalaBob Quote

It helps to take the bearing and do a sighting and then head that way. Also it never runs out of power like a GPSr builtin compass. cheers Quote
