+TAT
A number of Maine Geocachers are in the process of minting a new coin. We are ready to collect money and purchase the coins. But, we have run into a stumbling block with the responsiblities and obligations of selling a coin in Maine. We are not an organization. Although we have discussed forming some type of organization, the consensus seems to be that we do not need one. Although we could form one just for the coin, this seems to be a lot of "overkill" for such a simple thing as making a geocoin. Several people are willing to take on the responsibility of buying and selling coins. No one, however, wants to blindly accept the risks without knowing what is involved. One suggestion to solve this issue was to find out how other coins were handled. But, no one could point out an example of a coin that was minted under our circumstances. We are not an organization, our state claims we must charge sales tax, etc. Does anyone know a qualified individual that can advise us on the liabilities and taxes? Quote Link to comment
