markanton Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Just spotted this new receiver on www.DigitalReviews.net It has an integrated solar panel so battery life should be pretty good. Looks like you need a PDA or smartphone for geocaching with it. Any comments on how good this one would be as I'm a newby at the the game? MarkAnton Quote
+RumJungle Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 I tool a look at their specs on their web site. It looks promising. However, the receiver has only eight channels. I guess one advantage is that only having an 8 channel correlater would take less power and gain more battery life making it a good match for a solar panel. Quote
+webscouter. Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 This looks really great, many times I have searched a cache that was just under some heavy cover, now I can leave the antenna out in the open and walk into the brush with the bluetooth capabilities. Quote

+Greymane Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Still, anything that extends battery life can't be bad! Kudos to f-Tech for being creative. Quote

markanton Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 a search for on google give the price of 150.00 bucks... not bad.. Yeah, the price seems to be around 150 bucks and the review mentions that the 8 channel FirstGPS uses a lot less power than any other receiver. Long hunts...! Quote

The Bluetooth GPS isn't the thing that is going to be running out of batteries, it's your bluetooth phone or PDA that will. My PalmOne bluetooth GPS already goes more than 12 hours on one charge which is much longer than any of the devices I have that talk to it. --Marky Quote
markanton Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Does the FirstGPS do the job for geocaching or do I need better accuracy? Quote
markanton Posted June 15, 2005 Author Posted June 15, 2005 Let's ask the question differently: does anyone have experience with the FirstGPS or care to comment on that review? I kinda like the idea of integrated solar panels... Quote

markanton Posted June 18, 2005 Author Posted June 18, 2005 Does anyone know where we can buy this solar GPS in Australia? Thanks. Is anyone using something similar? Kemix has one but it looks like a rebranded f-tech. Quote
