freeday Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 When use the explorist and changing to trackback-modus the screen flickers and look like a chessboard. The only way to correct that chessboard (using 35m) is by resetting the GPS. And afterwards you have to adjust the system again. I tried it 2 times and chessboard was always enabled In "chessboard-modus" it is almost impossible to use the GPS. eXplorist 600: Rev. 5.161 Mar 14 2005 Normal screen (80m) when using trackback: http://web.utanet.at/rohmhube/gps-bilder/e...-problem-80.jpg Chessboard-modus (35m) when using trackback: http://web.utanet.at/rohmhube/gps-bilder/e...-problem-35.jpg Quote
+embra Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Sounds like you may have found a bug...we'll have to see if anyone else can duplicate the pattern. I can't on my 500; backtracking doesn't do this. I *think* I say that checkerboard pattern pop up once, but turning the unit off and on (or something minor like that) put things back right. Does the pattern maintain as you cycle through different screens? Pattern maintains across power down & up? Quote
flir67 Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 that definitely sounds like a bug you have found. you should e-mail magellan tech support with your pictures and let them know about it. I e-mailed them with my problems and I got a called within a few days, all thought I missed the call at first. good luck. Quote
freeday Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 Hi embra! turning the unit off and on (or something minor like that) put things back right. -->NO Does the pattern maintain as you cycle through different screens? --> YES Pattern maintains across power down & up? --> YES Quote
+embra Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 OK; thanks for satisfying my curiousity. Perhaps if you post the exact key sequence you use to invoke the Ralston Purina theme, another 600 owner can confirm whether it seems to be limited to your unit or not. As I said, I couldn't replicate on my 500 but I was guessing a little bit as to how you arrived there. Quote
freeday Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 How to play chess on a eXplorist 600: 1) Clear track and start logging 2) Walk for 500meters by turning 3 or 4 times. 3) Change to trackback option and then go back. 4) Going back zoom in and out und on Zooming with Zoom-Level (35M) you are able to play chess http://web.utanet.at/rohmhube/gps-bilder/e...-problem-35.jpg But i must admit that i am tired of searching the exactly reason why magellan does not work. I now have send i back to my dealer. The 2. eXplorist with problems. I bought one to use GPS and not to play a betatester for Thales, you know. I had already some quesions to the magellan-hotmail-support per telefone and per email (not because of the chess-feature) and i never had an really satisfying solution. I was the first one with the joystick problem - thats was the answer of the hotline. Meanwhile i know some people having the same problem. I better spend my time for other things (i already invested a lot of hours in Checking my joystick, the bad recipient of the second eXplorist 600 and the chess-feature) I hope you can imagine. If the unit does not work - it is very easy to give it back. But if it works a little bit or the joystick works sometimes and sometimes not it is very difficult and costs a lot of time to adduce as evidence Quote
+Waternoose Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) i had exactly the same problem with my 400. I also received the burn-in test page, the keypad test page and other stuff like that. that's really annoying. and after i reset the memory, the firmware fails and the screen freeze, the only way to turn it off is to remove the battery. Is any ones knows the correct ways to make a hard reset on explorist?? someone suggest me to press back-out-power but that doesn't work! Edited June 12, 2005 by charlesbureau Quote
+embra Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 That was pressing goto/out/power all at the same time. I believe this has to be done with the power off. Quote
freeday Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 1) Turn GPS of: 2) Press GOTO + ZOOM OUT + POWER for Hard reset (You have to press all three buttons for a few seconds) Other keystrokes for eXplorist 600: http://rhamphorinkx.newmail.ru/sf.htm Quote
+embra Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Hmmm. I'm wondering if that *is* a hard reset...although my 500 immediatly prompted me for a language and started the reinitialization process, it retained the correct time and zone. I suppose it could get atomic time off the satellites, but it must have kept something in memory to know which time zone I was in. Quote
+D0T-C0M Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 what firmware revision do you have. I have a 600 and cannot reproduce this Quote
