+*bingoboy*
The first UK cache (GC4E) was set 06/06/00 thus making tomorrow the 5th Birthday of caching in the UK I think I’ll have a drink in a pub to celebrate (not much arm bending needed there) ok I got the G and C round the wrong way in the first one Quote Link to comment

+Teasel
I'd always assumed that GC4E - England's First! was a test cache to ensure that the website worked for us foreigners. Check out the enigmatic Steve! Unless anyone knows different...? I think the earliest cache on the mainland was GCF0 - Scotland's First, though I could be wrong. If only his two points had actually been listened to... Quote Link to comment
+*bingoboy*
The Groundspeak calendar (got it free at an event in NY) says GC4E - "England's First!" 06th June 00 is the first in the UK. Quote Link to comment

markandlynn
is it a case of he that controls information writes history??? (said while looking over my shoulder) Hmmmm true but a quick web search can put people correct something like "who coined the term geocaching" yields some interesting results. Quote Link to comment

Considering that there are no details for Englands First and has never been found and now archived, I would say it was a test cache to make sure the system worked for over here. He has also placed 38 caches around America and the world, all but one are archived. Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
I don't know about the first but I have been given to understand that GC171 is the oldest surviving cache in England. It was placed on 14th Jan 2001. Unless anybody knows differently, of course? Quote Link to comment
+Brenin Tegeingl
England first is owned by iryshe who is an American Administrator, that works for Jeremy. You'll find that iryshe is in fact Jeremy himself Considering that there are no details for Englands First and has never been found and now archived, I would say it was a test cache to make sure the system worked for over here. Englands first was a database test and no cache container was ever placed, thats why it had no finders, if you do a search on the main forums, you'll find several mentions about this.
