+geoduck.5
No, no, no, you should use True North. TRUE NORTH: bearing is adjusted for local magnetic declination MAGNETIC NORTH: bearing is NOT adjusted for local magnetic declination Quote Link to comment
+DaveA
What do you set your gps on true north or mag. north ???? For the purpose of finding a cache it makes no difference as the direction from your present location to the cache is expressed in degrees. North isn't used in the calculation of the degree difference between your heading and your destination. For working with a compass you want magnetic north unless you have adjusted your compass for the declination. I don't know what my gps is set to as it isn't relevant to how I use a GPSr. Quote Link to comment
Tahosa and Sons
Mag North so it talks to my maps. I will convert in the field from map bearing (True) to field bearing (mag). Even though I have an adjustable compass I usually do it the old fashioned way. Out West we go by East is Least and the Truth is greater by 10° (At least where I traverse the hills) Quote Link to comment
