  2. I just got an Oregon 200 and would like to find a destination turn x turn software. I just want to be able to pop my addy in and my destination addy... I hear there are shareware maps out there. Any idea where I might look and which are the good ones? I really don't want to pay 50 or 60 bucks for the minimal use I would use it. thanks
  3. Me and my boyfriend just purchased our first geocaching gps today, the triton 200, and I am starting to regret the decision of buying this particular one!! The users manual was very unhelpful. 5. Recently purchased an Oregan 200. Went to geocaching.com and downloaded several paperless caches to internal memory. Everything worked fine by just clicking the box next to the listing and clicking the next icon over to send to my GPS. Problem is now that they are on my GPS I have no way of deleting or clearing from memory now that I have logged as a find. I have searched all over the menus and can't find a delete option. Any ideas? I would like to download a list and as I find caches mark as waypoint and then delete or upload to a software program. They are currently downloaded into Geocache Folder that is preloaded on Oregan 200. Would appreciate anyones expertise and suggestions.
  6. I am thinking about getting a Garmin Oregon 200 for geocaching. Any advice out there? Does anybody have one? Basically I am looking to get a unit for under $300. Have geocached before using a car GPS...painful. Advice greatly appreciated!
  7. Hi, I am selling a brand new Garmin Dakota 10 that I got as a gift and dont need. I put batteries in it and powered it up to see what it was like, probably ran for 5 minutes total. I dont need another GPS so am selling it.
  8. I was using my car GPS for my first few geocache adventures, but I wanted something better. My father gave me his Magellan eXplorist 200, but neither of us can figure out how to enter coordinates. I looked through the instruction manual and saw nothing about manually entering coordinates. Does anyone know if I can manually enter coordinates into this GPS? Thanks.
  9. Hi; We are new to geocaching... We just bought a Garmin ORegon 200 and are trying to download cache information to our gps. We're not sure what we are doing wrong. Can anybody give us step-by-step directions? We have it hooked up to the computer, we've updated the driver, we've tried saving the file to the computer and on to the gps (though perhaps not in the right place). Help! Thanks!
  10. I have the Oregon 200 with the TOPO canada Software loaded. While navigating to caches via car, the unit will give me turn by turn navigation, and the distance to the cache will update. Once I get out of the car and I touch the pin on the screen and move toward the cache, the distance stays at the car. The arrow moves, but the the only way I can tell how far I am from the cache is to touch the header at the top, and it tells me the distance from the waypoint, but it doesn't update dynamically of course. Sometimes when I zoom it it starts updating , but usually not. I've tried disabling maps, switching to pedestrain mode and I forget what else. Basically I have played with every setting I could think of. It's a new issue, and it's driving me nuts. I am ready to junk the stupid unit and get something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Does anyone use a Garmin Oregon 200? I am looking for a middle of the road GPS and looking at one of those... I will use it on my motorcycle for turn by turn routing and geocaching but would like to be paperless. Are they paperless.. ie. can I load info from the cache page, size/terrain/difficulty etc? I notice they also accept sdmicro cards. Don't need tons of bells and whistles!!! Can you enter coords, then have the turn by turn directions? thanks
  12. I bought a new Oregon 200 and I use a mac. For two days I have been trying to figure out how to get geocaches onto the gps. I installed the communicator plugin from the garmin site and it says my gps is connected but I am unable to get any geocaches on it. I tried a pocket query and dropping it on the the icon. I tried applications such as mac simple gps and geocache manager but none of these work. I miss the days of my old laptop and my gsak. Now I have resorted to manually keying in waypoints. Can anybody help me out? I am dying to get out there caching now that it is spring.
  13. Does anyone know how to manually input coodinats on a Garmin Oregon 200? I cant seem too.
  14. Hallo, my Legend HCx with the slow scrolling on maps and putting in names for waypoints with the joystick annoys me. So I thought about getting a new GPSr e.g. an Oregon 200 for 200 € or a Dakota 20 for 250 €. Now I have read a lot of pros and cons of the two receivers and I am quite unsure which one I should choose. I mean is it worth to invest 50 Bucks more for getting a GPSr with a smaller display but with more functions (3D-compass, barometer, more intern memory, wireless connection). Are the new Oregons/Dakotas faster in scrolling on maps? Are there processing speed differences between the Oregon 200 and the Dakota 20? Is it easier to scroll on the maps with the larger display of the Oregon than on the Dakota? Is it also possible with the Dakota to graze with your finger from left to right to change the menu page? My feeling just telling me "Go with the Oregon 200" but it´s just a feeling, so please help me. Which choice would you make? Greetings from Germany swift23

  16. Streetview just added a whole load of UK imaging, so huge areas of the country are now covered, there must be a cacher 'caught in the act' on there somewhere. Anyone spotted themselves yet?

  18. I'm wanting to know if there is a way to delete the "Found Caches" off my unit? If I can't, will it use up all the memory on the unit? I have logged 100 caches, so far and am wanting to clear them off it at all possible?
  19. Need someone in Bradenton or Sarasota to help us set up our new triton 2000. Would like someone to tutor us on setting this up would be happy to pay for your time. email:rchuler@tambay.rr.com
  20. Hi everyone, sure hope someone can help us. We just received our Oregon 200. However I have a couple of ??? first Is there a way to set up a Alarm or beep or something to alert us when we are within 100 ft or less? Our Garmin Venture does it but we cannot seem to find a way on the 200. Manuals and me don't mix so its a bit confusing reading it. Next- We read where we can change the pic on screen. My husband found Image veiwing and started messing with it and now we have the football pic as our screen . We cannot get it back to the rocks which I actually liked. How do we do that? Or get and keep another one of the pre made ones in here. Third- When we hook up the GPS to computer the screen just has a pic of it being connected. The Venture actaully comes on and I can watch the cahes load from Gsak.. Is this supposed to be like that? Last when we do connect we get 2 screens pop up. 1 is how we want to tranfer pictures. The other is the c drive one. What do we do with these? We just x out of them. Sorry this is long but we could really use the help. Thanks so much in Advance Michelle and Jeff

  23. I've run the Garmin Dashboard on my new Oregon 200 twice now. Each time I follow the directions to upgrade the firmware. Each time after completing the upgrade, supposedly successfully, the Dashboard still shows that an upgrade is available. Any suggestions? I'll Google it, but someone had the Oregon wiki handy. I need to bookmark it. If it was you who had it handy, if you could just pop it in here for me in a reply, I'd be grateful. In the meanwhile, I'll try and find it with Google.
  24. Wow. This Oregon is so much easier to use than the Venture HC I accidentally donated to a river. The touch screen is easy to use. The paperless geocaching is great. I loaded 100 or so closest to my house in no time - and it's so easy to find them and the details and whatnot. The screen is huge in comparison and the resolution is wonderful. It's very clear and easy to use. My only problem so far is that I need to add a TON of memory. That's the main feature I wanted - was the ability to add a card. I'll pick up an 8GB card on the way home and play some more tonight. I'm hoping to figure out some Google Earth transfers (both ways). Once I've got it out in the field some and found a few caches with it, I'll write a proper review. I've also got to upgrade the firmware (O/S?). I intend to get City Navigator and hope that I'll be able to use it to get close to a cache, then switch over to the 100:1 Topo map to get from the parking spot to the cache. If it'll do that smoothly and effectively, I will be major-league stoked. Also, if I can put in waypoints I find on Google Earth to be able to drive to them and then hike to the next, I will be thrilled. I've been spending a lot of time on Google Earth looking for new fishing locations, and would love to be able to work it out with the GPSr. - Zurfco p.s. Thanks to everyone who have been so helpful to me already. I'm sure I'll have a million more questions. Your patience with a new GPSr user is greatly appreciated.
