I went to best buy and they didn't have the data cable, besides the associate was really rude, he pointed and said, they should be over there. So far this GPS has been working great for me but I want to be able to load coordiantes and maps from the computer.

I just realizes yesterday that a cache that was loaded from GSAK into my Oregon almost a year ago, did not automatically update new coordinates put on the cache by the CO. Does anyone know what I need to do to ensure that the latest coordinates are being loaded properly? If this is the wrong place to ask, I'll try the GSAK forums, no problem. I just wasn't sure where the error was....I am probably just doing something wrong and one of you smart people will be able to help. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking at "upgrading" my GPS. I have a Platinum right now...was my first GPS and I bought it used. I saw that the triton 200 here at canadian tire was listed as "designed for geocaching". I'm just wondering what the general community thinks. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade for me or would I be lugging this thing right back to the store?

Hi, How is the Oregon 200's turn by turn routing compared to other car/motorcycle specific units? Can I expect pretty much exactly the same result, minus the spoken directions? Or is it different? Thanks!

I've been geocaching for a couple years now. My first unit was actually a DeLorme bluetooth unit which I used with my HP pocket PC. That still works fine for geocaching, but I recently decided I wanted to put a low-cost GPS unit in my car that I could take with me out into the field when I geocached. The handheld units are a real turn-off to me because of the way you have to navigate the menus. I wanted touch-screen because it's just so much quicker. The other day I was out with a friend looking around at car GPS units and I saw that Garmin's Nuvi line had the capability of accepting multiple coordinate formats and zooms in to 80 feet. I looked at the units with geocaching in mind first and a car GPS in mind second. I also didn't want to pay over $200 for a GPS unit. Enter the Nuvi 200, the low-end model of the Garmin car GPS line. The unit functions great as an inexpensive car GPS but it also is accurate enough to triangulate a geocache. I have yet to use it to test for pinpoint accuracy, so I'm going by the zoom feature. The only thing I don't like about the unit is the icon representing the current position, which can only be reduced to an arrow. The Li-Ion battery allows for portability and lasts up to 3 hours, which would be nice for a day of caching. In-between it would be charging while I drive. In the coming weeks I will be testing the unit on a geocache or two and will post my findings. As a car GPS I've already gotten out of a few pinches with the unit. Its features are basic, but they are enough to satisfy those with less to spend. I checked on the website and found that there are no updates for my unit. There is a program you can download and run to update firmware, but you can't download anything directly except a cursor pack that consists mostly of cars of different types to use as your vehicle. There are two upgrades you can add via the SD slot which enhance the points of interest for the US and/or Europe respectively. I don't consider these a necessity. If you're spending this low you're not worried about these kinds of features. The only other downsides---the model I purchased is being replaced with a new model so support in the future may be limited. Information in the unit can and will become outdated over time. I am unaware whether a firmware upgrade will update the unit's database as well, but I do know my unit has fairly new streets in it now at firmware version 3.80. More as soon as I get a chance to test it for geocaching.

Okay so for like 2 wks I have been searching the forum, reading reviews on Amazon, reading Garmin's website and talking to fellow cachers. I still can't decide. Want I'd like to know is which one of these will show and make a sound to tell me when to turn and then I can pull it out of the car and go find the cache with adequate accuracy. I own the Explorist 400 and am wondering if the Nuvi 200 will hold 500 POIs and will it do like the Nuvi 550 and show you with an arrow when you are approaching a POI and in which direction. That's the last thing I want to do is use to GPS to find caches but I will if it's more cost effective. I'd like to pull the GPS out of the box with up-to-date road maps and use gsak to transfer caches and walk out the door. Is this possible? I just moved to a new area and I don't own a road gps that will show me where to drive to get there. Completely paperless is cool but not required. I was reading something about special batteries to get the most out of the Oregon what are they and where do you buy them? Are there are threads answering these questions if you'll direct me there I'll read them. Thank you for your time. Seriously I'm torn and just want the best for my money. Getting my car to the cache is my biggest issue right now.

The holy grail of geocoins. Are there still a few sitting out in unfound caches, or maybe hiding in the drawer of a cacher who has since quit caching? Maybe at the bottom of a kids toybox somewhere?

I have been geocaching with some other moms and our 2 yr old sons. It's lots of fun but this week we are 0 for 4. We have searched for 4 caches and not found a single one. I am using a Garmin Nuvi 200 and wonder if that is part of the problem. It is the kind of GPS you use in your car but I can load the caches onto it from this website and/or put int he longitude and latitude for each cahce. We have found several caches using the Nuvi but our stretch of misses is making em think we are doing something wrong. I really dont have the money to invest in another GPS.Hasanyone usd the Nuvi or something smilar and had any luck with geocaching? Thanks, Stacy Tampa, FL

I have looked high and low for the clip that holds the Nuvi 200 in place. All I can find for sale is the suction cup / ball end mount. I already have 2 of these. I need the other end. I have checked with Garmin, aftermarket suppliers and ebay. Why is this simple little clip so hard to find? Clip needed circled in picture below.

I am new to geocaching, I just got my Garmin Oregon 200 on Friday and there are no hints displayed on any of the caches I've loaded onto my device. I've tried loading both the .loc and .gpx files with no luck. The caches and coordinates are displayed but nothing else. I'm sure I'm missing something but can't figure it out. Does anyon have any advice.

So basically I am upgrading my gps. My cousin has suggested these two gps. I am looking mainly for caching features (ofcourse). So right now its the Oregon 200 (or 300) or the Colorado 300. any tips?

I just bought a Oregon 200 and was trying to load caches into it. On my old Garmin I would just hit send to GPS and it would find it. Can you not do that anymore with the Oregon? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, I bought a Garmin Nuvi 200 in USA 2 mouths ago. In US with a US maps everything is working very well, but when I arrived in Brazil, I bought a garmin braziliam maps in a SD card. My Nuvi 200 recognise the maps with no problems, but I can not create routes because the first step in the search page is the state and provincie and I can not find Brazilian maps information. I already disable the american maps, and tryed but nothing happens, still not recognising the adress list. PS: I can load the maps, and the gps is working fine, and the maps are original maps. The only problem is to get in the search the brazilian street names, to make possible create routes. Is there any one that can help me please??? Regards

Okay so I fell for it. I did the MyGPSOffer.com. I filled out the one offer I had to, which was applying for a Discover card. Now after I activate it I will receive a new Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS for free. 1st question is has any one else tried this? And if so how did it turn out? 2nd question is how does the Nuvi 200 work for Geocacheing? I was just going to sell it and buy an eTrex H any way but I was just wondering.
